Microsoft to make Skype ad-free in the latest update

[output_post_excerpt]

Microsoft is set to make Skype ad-free in an upcoming update that will soon be available across all platforms. This update also brings enhanced AI image creation tools to Skype for Windows and macOS and enables automatic sign-in on iOS if you’re already logged into another Microsoft app.

A smoother, ad-free experience

In this latest update, Microsoft is removing all ads from Skype, promising a more enjoyable and uncluttered user experience. “Our latest update removes all ads from Skype channels and the entire Skype platform, ensuring a smoother, decluttered, and more enjoyable user experience,” says Skype product manager Irene Namuganyi.

With this change, you will no longer see ads in the main chat interface or the channels section. Microsoft has listened to user feedback regarding ads on Skype and decided to focus on providing a cleaner and more user-friendly experience without ad distractions.

Keeping the today section

Today, the section of Skype that includes a news feed powered by MSN will remain. Although many Skype users may ignore this tab, you can turn it off entirely in Settings > Appearance.

This move raises hopes that Microsoft will also address user concerns about ads in Windows. The company has been criticised for adding intrusive Bing prompts, ads in the Start menu, and other tactics to encourage users to switch to Edge.

Improved AI tools and new features

In addition to removing ads, Microsoft is enhancing the AI image creation features in Skype for Windows and macOS. You will soon be able to access the AI image creator directly from chat windows, and AI-generated images will expand when clicked. Microsoft has refined the user interface, aligning the image creator with Apple’s macOS design.

Furthermore, Microsoft is introducing OneAuth integration to Skype for iOS. This feature allows you to sign into the app automatically if you are already logged into another Microsoft app. If you’ve experienced issues sending photos or videos over 5G with Skype, Microsoft has fixed this bug in the upcoming update, which will be available in the next few days.

This update aims to improve your Skype experience by removing ads, enhancing AI tools, and fixing bugs to ensure smoother performance.
