Motorola refreshes Moto G and Moto G Play smartphones for 2026

Motorola launches new Moto G and Moto G Play models for 2026, featuring upgraded cameras, improved displays, and stylish Pantone colour options.

Motorola has unveiled its latest updates to the popular Moto G and Moto G Play smartphones, continuing its tradition of delivering reliable and affordable devices. The refreshed 2026 models introduce improved features, enhanced camera capabilities, and stylish new colour options designed to appeal to budget-conscious consumers seeking modern functionality.

Upgraded displays and performance

Both the Moto G and Moto G Play come equipped with 6.7-inch displays featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits. These upgrades promise a more responsive experience for everyday use, whether users are browsing, gaming, or streaming videos.

The Moto G stands out with a 50MP main camera and a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies, while the Moto G Play includes a 32MP main camera and an 8MP front camera. Both devices utilise Motorola’s quad pixel technology, which enhances image clarity and colour accuracy across various lighting conditions.

Powering both handsets is a 5,200mAh battery, designed to deliver long-lasting performance. The Moto G supports 30W fast charging, while the Moto G Play features 18W charging capability. These options enable users to quickly power up their phones and stay connected throughout the day.

Durability and design improvements

In terms of durability, Motorola continues to prioritise practicality. The Moto G retains Gorilla Glass 3 protection and an IP52 water resistance rating—features carried over from the 2025 model. The Moto G Play will also include the same level of water resistance, providing some defence against minor splashes and dust exposure.

Aesthetically, Motorola has partnered with Pantone to introduce new colour finishes inspired by leather textures. The Moto G will be offered in two Pantone shades: Slipstream Grey and Cattleya Orchid Purple. Meanwhile, the Moto G Play will be available in Pantone Tapestry Blue. These refined design choices give both models a premium look while maintaining their affordable pricing.

Availability and pricing

The Moto G is set to launch on 11 December, with direct sales beginning through Motorola’s official website. Retail availability through Amazon and Best Buy will follow on 15 January. The handset will start at a retail price of US$200.

The Moto G Play will be released earlier, going on sale online from Motorola, Best Buy, and Amazon on 13 November for US$170. In-store availability is expected to follow the online release in the months ahead.

Motorola’s updated Moto G series continues to strengthen the brand’s foothold in the budget smartphone market, combining user-friendly features, improved camera systems, and appealing designs at competitive prices. With these updates, the company remains committed to providing accessible technology that does not compromise on quality or style.
