Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly ‘ready’ to launch — here’s what we know

Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly been completed, and rumours suggest a launch in March or April 2025. It will feature magnetic Joy-Cons.

Rumours surrounding the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 continue to swirl, with promising new details emerging. The next version of Nintendo’s popular hybrid console is reportedly completed. It could be ready to hit the market early next year with exciting new features such as magnetic Joy-Con controllers. This speculation comes from Ruben Mercado, CEO of Blade, a gaming accessories and peripherals manufacturer, who recently revealed these insights during a podcast interview with the Spanish website Vandal.

Blade CEO suggests launch in early 2025

During the podcast, Mercado claimed that Blade has already had access to nearly final versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. He said the new console is “done” and could be “ready to go,” with a potential launch as soon as March or April 2025. If accurate, this would place the Switch 2 release just in time for the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year, which has fuelled speculation about the timing of its launch.

Mercado’s company, Blade, is no stranger to the gaming industry, producing peripherals and accessories for various gaming systems. His remarks have added credibility to the growing belief that Nintendo is preparing to roll out its next console in the coming months.

However, as with all unofficial reports, it’s essential to remain cautious. While Blade is a legitimate peripheral company, it’s still unclear how much insight Mercado and his team have into Nintendo’s inner workings. Still, his statements have sparked fresh excitement about the successor to the hugely successful Switch console.

Magnetic Joy-Cons could be a game-changer

One of the most talked-about upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2 is the introduction of redesigned Joy-Con controllers. According to Mercado, the new Joy-Cons will attach to the console magnetically, a significant improvement over the current model’s metal and plastic rails. The current Joy-Cons have often been criticised for their durability, so this upgrade could be a major draw for players seeking a more reliable and robust experience.

Mercado also hinted at changes to the Joy-Con’s analogue sticks, noting that Blade’s current line of analogue stick covers, designed for the original Switch, won’t be compatible with the new version. This suggests that the Switch 2 might offer a completely redesigned set of controls, potentially addressing complaints about the infamous “Joy-Con drift” issue that has plagued many users of the original console.

Nintendo’s official silence

Despite the excitement building around the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming giant has remained tight-lipped. Nintendo confirmed in May that a new console is in development, with a planned reveal before the end of the current fiscal year in March 2025. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced this timeline but gave no further details, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about what the new system will bring.

Rumours about the launch date vary, with some sources suggesting a release in March to boost Nintendo’s end-of-year financials. Others believe the company may hold off until April to start the next fiscal year with a strong product launch. Mercado speculated during the podcast that the timing of the Switch 2 rollout could hinge on Nintendo’s financial performance for the current year. A March launch could be on the cards if the company needs a boost. However, if the economic situation looks strong, Nintendo might delay the launch until April to capitalise on a fresh start for the new fiscal year.

While Blade is a trusted name in gaming peripherals, it’s impossible to know whether Mercado’s predictions will come to pass. Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, fans must wait and see.
