NTT DATA and The GEAR by Kajima launch smart building project in Singapore

NTT DATA and The GEAR by Kajima launch a smart building in Singapore, using 8,700 data points to boost efficiency, sustainability, and security.

NTT DATA has partnered with The GEAR by Kajima to create a smart building solution in Singapore, showcasing how data-driven infrastructure can improve efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Based at Kajima’s regional headquarters and R&D hub, the initiative uses over 8,700 data points to transform the building into a responsive and efficient ecosystem.

The collaboration integrates more than 10 different technologies into a single platform, addressing challenges caused by fragmented systems. NTT DATA has provided network infrastructure, IoT platforms, and consulting services to automate operations and streamline data management, aligning the building’s performance with key business metrics.

Driving research and development

The GEAR building now operates as a live testbed for emerging technologies, supporting research and the creation of solutions aimed at transforming the built environment. By strengthening the building’s digital backbone, the system enables continuous operational improvements.

More than 2,000 sensors feed over 8,700 data points into centralised systems, helping to optimise inventory, procurement, and service delivery. Automation reduces the need for manual intervention and allows faster decision-making, increasing operational agility.

Improving cost efficiency and user experience

The building’s smart systems feature remote monitoring and personalised controls to improve comfort and productivity for occupants. Energy management tools help track usage and identify opportunities for savings, supporting both cost reduction and environmental goals.

These innovations also contribute to The GEAR building’s BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification. The technology supports efficient resource use, lifecycle management, and data-led sustainability practices, reinforcing the building’s commitment to eco-friendly operations.

Securing the smart ecosystem

NTT DATA has embedded cybersecurity measures across all systems, protecting IoT devices and data flows from potential threats. This ensures the integrity and safety of the connected infrastructure.

“This collaboration shows NTT DATA’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that drives innovation. The GEAR building is now a scalable, flexible environment for current and future needs,” said Png Kim-Meng, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore, NTT DATA.

Luke Wu, Managing Director of The GEAR by Kajima, added: “The GEAR by Kajima represents our bold commitment to shaping the future of the built environment through innovation, collaboration, and purposeful technology adoption. Our partnership with NTT DATA has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life, by transforming The GEAR building into a living lab where smart systems, sustainability, and digital infrastructure converge.”
