OpenAI has announced a series of upcoming fixes and feature upgrades for its AI-powered web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, only days after the product’s launch. The updates were shared by product lead Adam Fry, who posted a detailed list of planned improvements in a “post-launch fixes” thread on X.
We’ve received incredible feedback since launching our new browser, ChatGPT Atlas, yesterday. We’re really focused on building the best product for all of you, and since launch, the team has been heads down making it better.

The company’s roadmap aims to address early user feedback and enhance the overall browsing, research, and workflow experience. Many of the updates focus on tab organisation, user profiles, sidebar tools, and the performance of the built-in Agent mode available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
Enhancements to browsing and organisation
One of the key updates coming to ChatGPT Atlas is the introduction of tab groups, which will allow users to bundle related web pages together for easier navigation. This change is expected to help users working across multiple research topics or projects by reducing clutter and improving workflow. Alongside this, support for multiple user profiles will be introduced. Profiles will keep history, bookmarks, and browsing contexts separate, making it simpler for users to switch between personal, work, or specialised browsing environments without overlap.
Users can also expect improvements to bookmark management, including an overflow menu that displays saved pages more clearly and organises them. A new shortcut list is planned as well, allowing faster access to frequently used actions within the browser.
The sidebar interface, which integrates AI-powered chat tools, will also receive updates. These include a model picker for more direct control over which AI model is used during conversations, as well as tighter integration between browsing and projects within the chat sidebar. The chat composer will be enhanced to better handle communication across multiple open tabs. At the same time, the new “@mentions” style context system will provide clearer control over what information is shared with the AI at any given time.
Improvements for Agent mode and system reliability
The Agent mode, available only to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, will also see several refinements designed to improve reliability and responsiveness. According to Fry, users can expect faster initial replies, a more stable pause function, fewer missed triggers when the Agent attempts to take action, and smoother interface animations.
Additional browser-specific upgrades are also on the way. An opt-in ad blocker is currently in development, allowing users to limit advertising across the web. The built-in password manager will also be improved to streamline autofill and credential storage functions.
These enhancements are seen as important for helping ChatGPT Atlas close the gap with more established browsers. Early adopters have noted that while Atlas introduced strong AI-driven capabilities, certain basic browser features were missing at launch, particularly in areas like profile support and comprehensive tab management.
Rollout timeline and long-term goals
Many of the new features will roll out gradually over the coming weeks, though some updates, including tab groups and the ad blocker, will arrive later. Fry noted that pinned tabs will soon reopen automatically when the browser restarts, helping maintain continuity when juggling multiple tasks.
Profiles are also expected to arrive soon, which will be a significant milestone for users who rely on browser separation across different activities.
Looking ahead, OpenAI plans to expand ChatGPT Atlas beyond macOS. Once early refinements are stable, the browser is expected to be released for Windows, iOS, and Android. The long-term goal is to develop Atlas into a centralised platform that combines browsing, work, research, shopping, and AI assistance into a streamlined environment.
Meanwhile, the main ChatGPT platform has introduced Shared Projects, a new feature that enables multiple users to collaborate, chat, and share files directly within the interface.
