Sony focuses on detailed gaming audio
The Pulse Elevate is built around planar magnetic drivers, a speaker technology Sony says delivers highly accurate audio reproduction. According to the company, the drivers can “reproduce sound with near-perfect accuracy along the entire audible spectrum, so you can hear games exactly how the developers intended.”
The speakers also include dedicated woofers to provide additional low-frequency sound. Sony has equipped the system with a built-in microphone that can reduce background noise, allowing users to communicate with others while gaming. The combination is intended to make the speakers suitable for both game audio and voice communication.
Spatial audio is another major feature of the Pulse Elevate. The speakers support Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, which is designed to create a more immersive sense of sound direction and positioning in compatible games. This can help players distinguish where sounds are coming from, such as footsteps, effects or other activity within a game environment.
Wireless connectivity extends beyond PS5
The Pulse Elevate is designed to work with several devices across Sony’s ecosystem. Users can connect the speakers to a PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, or Mac using PlayStation Link. The speakers will also include a PlayStation Link USB-C adaptor, allowing compatible devices to connect using the wireless technology.
Bluetooth support gives the speakers broader use beyond gaming. Users can connect them to Bluetooth-compatible devices, while multipoint pairing allows the speakers to maintain connections with more than one device. This could make the Pulse Elevate useful for people who want a single set of desktop speakers for both gaming and other audio needs.
Sony also lets users adjust presets and other settings through a PS5 or PC. The speakers can be tilted, giving users some control over how the sound is directed from their desktop setup. These features are intended to make the system more flexible for different gaming and listening environments.
Battery details remain limited ahead of launch
Despite confirming the launch date and price, Sony has not yet provided a complete list of technical specifications for the Pulse Elevate. The company has also not disclosed the exact battery life, saying only that the speakers can play audio for “hours” on a charge.
The lack of a specific battery estimate leaves some important questions unanswered, particularly for users planning to use the speakers wirelessly for extended gaming sessions. Battery performance could be an important factor for buyers deciding between the Pulse Elevate and conventional wired desktop speakers.
More information could be provided before pre-orders begin on 1 September or ahead of the November release. For now, Sony is positioning the Pulse Elevate as a premium wireless audio solution aimed at PlayStation players who want spatial audio, flexible connectivity and desktop-focused sound without using a headset.
At US$220, the speakers will sit firmly in the premium accessory category when they arrive on 12 November. Their combination of planar magnetic drivers, Tempest 3D AudioTech, PlayStation Link, Bluetooth and multipoint connectivity could appeal to users looking for a versatile audio setup. However, the missing battery and full specification details leave some aspects of the product unconfirmed.
