Proofpoint launches unified cybersecurity platform to cut costs and tackle multichannel threats

Proofpoint launches Prime Threat Protection, a unified cybersecurity platform tackling human risk and multichannel threats while reducing costs.

Proofpoint has announced the global launch of Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection, which it describes as the industry’s first fully unified, human-centric cybersecurity platform. The new solution integrates a range of threat defence features—previously available only through separate tools—into a single platform aimed at protecting users across all digital channels while lowering cybersecurity overhead.

The company introduced the platform on 23 April, highlighting its ability to defend against multistage, multichannel attacks and its built-in readiness for future AI-driven automation. Proofpoint Prime brings together real-time threat detection, response capabilities, impersonation protection, and risk-based employee education into one solution. It is designed to help organisations better protect their users—regardless of where or how they work—while improving operational efficiency and reducing security costs.

According to Proofpoint, most security breaches today involve human error, with cybercriminals exploiting various platforms such as email, messaging apps, browsers, file-sharing systems, and social media. These attacks often involve complex techniques like impersonation and social engineering. In one cited case, the ransomware group Black Basta used a combination of email and Microsoft Teams messages to impersonate IT support staff and gain access to corporate systems.

Reducing complexity and improving operational efficiency

Proofpoint argues that many enterprises are overwhelmed by the complexity of their existing security setups, often relying on over 45 disjointed cybersecurity tools. These tools typically require separate workflows, interfaces, and integrations, which can slow down threat detection and response times. This fragmentation also impacts user training, as standalone security awareness platforms tend to be disconnected from actual threat activity, leading to limited behaviour change and inefficiencies in security operations.

Darren Lee, executive vice president and general manager of Proofpoint’s Threat Protection Group, said, “The most damaging attacks continue to target people, and security teams are overwhelmed by siloed software, scattered threat signals, and rising costs. With Proofpoint Prime, organisations no longer need to stitch together dozens of disconnected detection and response tools and employee education. It integrates protection across multiple channels and attack stages, providing organisations a level of protection and peace of mind that is unmatched in the industry.”

Proofpoint claims that organisations using the unified platform have saved US$2.7 million in reduced risk exposure and avoided US$390,000 in operational costs on average. The platform also includes pre-built integrations and bundled licensing to support easier deployment and a more sustainable economic model for security teams.

Preparing for AI-powered cybersecurity

Built with the future in mind, Proofpoint Prime Threat Protection is architected to support “agentic AI”—a concept referring to AI systems capable of autonomous decision-making. This readiness is intended to allow security teams to automate tasks such as threat investigation, abuse mailbox triage, and forensics for collaboration tools. As the threat landscape evolves, Proofpoint plans to continue enhancing the platform’s capabilities.

The solution comprises four main pillars: multichannel defence using the Nexus AI engine, protection against multistage attacks such as account takeovers and lateral movement, human risk-based guidance and education, and comprehensive impersonation protection. The latter combines email authentication, brand protection, and takedown services to guard against domain spoofing and malicious copycat domains.

With Proofpoint Prime, the company is positioning itself to support a more adaptive and consolidated cybersecurity approach—replacing patchwork solutions with an integrated platform designed for both current threats and emerging challenges in the digital workspace.
