Samsung may launch a super-sized foldable phone in 2026

Samsung is reportedly planning a new super-sized foldable phone for 2026, joining the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold series.

Samsung is preparing to broaden its foldable phone line-up with a new device featuring a much larger screen, according to fresh reports from South Korea. The company, which has so far focused on book-style and clamshell-style designs, may be ready to unveil a new super-sized model in 2026.

A third foldable format on the horizon

Samsung has been at the forefront of foldable technology for several years, showcasing prototypes ranging from multi-folding OLED displays to slide-and-extend concepts. However, its commercial products have remained limited to the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series.

That could soon change. Korea’s ETNews has reported that Samsung’s mobile division is working on three foldable formats for 2026. While the familiar Flip and Fold devices will remain part of the catalogue, the line-up may be joined by an additional book-style phone with a significantly larger display.

The concept is not entirely new in the industry. Huawei has already attempted something similar with its Mate XT series, which uses a panel that folds twice and opens into a display with a 1:1.4 aspect ratio. Only last week, Huawei unveiled an updated Mate XTs with a 10.2-inch inner foldable screen, further blurring the line between tablets and smartphones.

Details of Samsung’s upcoming design

According to the report, citing unnamed industry insiders, Samsung is expected to finalise hardware plans for the super-sized foldable device within the next two months. If development goes ahead as anticipated, the new device is likely to be released in the second half of 2026, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 successors.

The form factor being explored is described as a wide-format rectangular screen measuring around ten inches when unfolded. While the size may sound excessive for a phone, Samsung is believed to be banking on several features to make the design more practical. These include support for a full-sized stylus, advanced app-windowing options, and an optimised user interface.

Together, these improvements could allow the new foldable to function as both a smartphone and a productivity-focused tablet. The combination of portability with enhanced multitasking capabilities may appeal to professionals, students, and users seeking a versatile all-in-one device.

Potential benefits and challenges

Samsung also has the advantage of its DeX system, which enables a desktop-like experience when connected to a monitor or used on a large display. A super-sized foldable phone could make this functionality even more appealing, offering users a laptop alternative in a highly portable form.

Despite the promise, questions remain about whether consumers will embrace such a large foldable phone. Devices like Microsoft’s cancelled Surface Neo highlighted the risks of attempting to merge tablet and laptop functions into a single product. Samsung will need to ensure that its software, hardware, and ecosystem integration are strong enough to avoid the same pitfalls.

If successful, the device could open a new category of mobile devices, giving Samsung an edge in a market where it already holds a strong lead. For now, anticipation is building as the industry waits to see how the company develops its ambitious plans.
