Starfield’s August update brings first land vehicle and key performance enhancements

Starfield’s August update introduces the Rev-8 land vehicle and performance improvements, enhancing gameplay on Xbox and PC.

Bethesda has rolled out a significant update for Starfield in August, introducing new features, improvements, and exciting content to enhance your gameplay. The August Update (1.13.61), unveiled during Gamescom 2024, brings the game’s first land vehicle, the Rev-8, along with several performance upgrades that will improve your experience on both Xbox and PC.

Introducing the Rev-8 land vehicle

The highlight of this update is the Rev-8, a rugged land cruiser designed to aid you in planetary exploration. You can acquire the Rev-8 by visiting a ship technician in any major city to install the vehicle module. Once installed, the Rev-8 will automatically deploy outside your ship when you land, ready for you to hop in and explore the planet.

The Rev-8 is not just any rover. Equipped with a mounted turret and protective armour, it’s designed to boost your defence against planetary threats. The advanced booster system allows you to make quick escapes and reach previously inaccessible areas. If the default look of the Rev-8 doesn’t suit your style, you can customise the vehicle with unique colour schemes, giving it a personal touch that reflects your in-game personality.

Enhanced performance options for Xbox players

Alongside the new vehicle, the update offers a variety of performance improvements that are particularly beneficial for Xbox players. You can now select from different frame rate targets, including 30, 40, 60, or even uncapped frame rates on displays with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Additionally, the update allows you to prioritise either visuals or performance, allowing you to tailor the game to your preferences. The ability to toggle VSync on or off is also included, offering further flexibility in how the game runs on your system.

Bug fixes and overall improvements

The August update also addresses a range of bugs and includes general improvements across the game. You’ll notice enhanced general performance and stability, with fixes implemented for various gameplay issues, such as weapon animations and NPC interactions. Ship-related mechanics have been refined, and the game’s graphics have received updates, including improved reflections in shallow puddles, making the world of Starfield even more immersive. The user interface has also been fine-tuned to accommodate different screen resolutions better, ensuring a smoother experience across various devices.

This substantial update is now available for download, and Bethesda has also teased what’s next for Starfield. The upcoming Shattered Space DLC, set to launch on September 30, will take you to the homeworld of House Va’Ruun, introducing a new planet, additional weapons, spacesuits, and gear, further expanding the rich universe of Starfield.
