STT GDC opens first South Korea data centre in Seoul
STT GDC has opened STT Seoul 1, its first South Korea data centre, with up to 30MW of IT load for cloud and AI deployments.
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres has opened STT Seoul 1, its first data centre in South Korea, adding a Seoul facility designed for cloud and AI deployments.

The facility is located in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, near Mokdong. It has about 40,000 square metres of gross floor area and supports up to 30MW of IT load. Full commercial operations begin in June 2026.
STT Seoul 1 was developed and is operated through a joint venture between STT GDC and Hyosung Heavy Industries. STT GDC holds a 60% stake in the venture, while Hyosung Heavy Industries holds 40%.
A Seoul site for cloud and AI deployments
STT GDC said the facility is designed to support large cloud operators and enterprise customers, including deployments that require more power and cooling in a smaller technical footprint.
The company is positioning STT Seoul 1 as part of its expansion into markets where customer demand, power availability and digital infrastructure needs are coming together. In South Korea, the company cited enterprise digitalisation and rising demand for computing capacity as factors behind the opening.
“AI infrastructure demand is increasingly concentrating in markets where digital capability, power availability and customer requirements come together,” said Charles Chulhoy Huh, Country Head, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Korea). “STT Seoul 1 establishes an important foundation for STT GDC’s presence in Korea, extending a globally consistent platform into a key Northeast Asian market, where customers are scaling increasingly advanced workloads and require infrastructure that is resilient, efficient and built for long-term growth.”
Resilience and efficiency are built into the design
STT Seoul 1 has received Tier III Certification of Design Documents from Uptime Institute. The certification covers the facility’s design approach for high availability, including the ability to carry out maintenance without shutting down key systems.
The facility uses dual 22.9kV power feeds with a redundant configuration. It also has a distributed redundant UPS system and backup generators that can operate for up to 24 hours without refuelling.
Cooling is another focus area. STT GDC said the site supports a design power usage effectiveness of below 1.3, a measure used to compare the total energy used by a data centre with the energy delivered to its IT equipment. The facility also uses thermal energy storage to help maintain stable cooling.
STT Seoul 1 includes a seven-layer physical security framework, with intelligent video analytics and biometric authentication. It has also achieved LEED Gold certification.
Hyosung joint venture gives STT GDC a local base
The joint venture between STT GDC and Hyosung Heavy Industries was established in 2021. STT GDC said the partnership combines its global data centre platform and operating experience with Hyosung’s local market capabilities.
The opening ceremony was attended by Bruno Lopez, STT GDC President and Group CEO, Hyun-Joon Cho, Hyosung Group Chairman, Jeehye Park, Member of the National Assembly of Korea, and Wong Kai Jiun, Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
With STT Seoul 1, STT GDC adds South Korea to a data centre portfolio that includes Singapore, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam.
