Vivo unveils the X200 series in China with advanced photography, videography, and AI features

Vivo unveils the X200 series in China, featuring pro-level photography, AI-powered video, and the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset.

Vivo has officially unveiled its highly anticipated flagship smartphone for 2025, the X200 series, in China. The new line-up includes three models: the Vivo X200, the Vivo X200 Pro, and the Vivo X200 Pro mini. Thanks to innovative hardware and software enhancements, these models boast significant improvements in photography and videography.

The launch coincides with the recent debut of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset, which powers the entire X200 series and promises faster performance and improved efficiency.

Enhanced telephoto features for better shots

One of the standout features of the Vivo X200 series is the upgraded 135mm telephoto lens, which goes beyond the previous 100mm telephoto lens found in earlier models. This improvement matches the telephoto capability of the X100 Ultra and is designed to enhance long-distance photography.

The X200 series introduces several new shooting modes for telephoto photography, including the Telephoto Super Stage Mode, which optimises settings for capturing concerts and live events. It also features Super Landscape Mode and Telephoto Macro, giving users more versatility in taking detailed and expansive shots. As before, Vivo’s Live Photo format remains compatible with iPhone’s.

The X200 series continues to push the boundaries of mobile videography, offering 10-bit Log video recording. Professional filmmakers typically use this format, allowing for more post-production flexibility, especially when adjusting colours and tones.

The phones also support 4K HDR Cinematic Portrait Video, providing a high-quality portrait-focused video experience. For those interested in capturing fast-paced action, the X200 series offers 4K video recording at 120 frames per second, ideal for slow-motion footage of sports or other fast-moving scenes.

Sony sensors and AI-powered imaging

All models in the Vivo X200 series come with the Vivo V3+ imaging chip, which enhances photo processing. The Pro version features the Sony LYT-818 sensor, developed in collaboration with Sony, for improved power efficiency and imaging performance. This sensor is compact but powerful, helping to deliver sharp, detailed photos even in challenging conditions.

Vivo has also integrated AI-driven algorithms to improve photo quality. These algorithms work behind the scenes to refine details and enhance the overall image, making it easier to capture professional-looking photos with minimal effort.

Vivo’s new BlueLM AI, available only in Mainland China, is another notable addition. BlueLM enhances voice interaction and translation within Vivo’s operating system, OriginOS 5, offering a seamless AI integration experience. This AI can assist with everyday tasks, from live broadcasting filters to beauty enhancements and privacy management.

For those who require precise location tracking, the X200 series introduces a kilometre-level location module, which works even without a network connection. Other improvements in the X200 series include enhanced cold resistance and increased energy efficiency, ensuring better battery life in various conditions.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset powers the entire X200 series. MediaTek claims this new processor offers 35% faster single-core performance, 28% better multi-core performance, and 40% greater power efficiency than its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300.

Eye comfort and display innovations

The Vivo X200 series features 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, a technology designed to make viewing more comfortable, especially in low-light environments. This granular dimming technology helps reduce eye strain during prolonged use.

While the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro have flat displays and curved bodies, the X200 Pro mini offers a more compact design, similar to that of the iPhone 16 Pro. Despite its smaller size, the X200 Pro mini boasts a 5,700mAh battery, which Vivo claims outperforms even the iPhone 16 Pro Max in capacity.

The Vivo X200 series, which includes the Vivo X200, Vivo X200 Pro, and Vivo X200 Pro mini, officially launched in China on October 14, 2024. Currently, the phones are only available in China. Still, Vivo has hinted that more details will be shared if and when the series is available in other markets, including Singapore.
