X experiences repeated outages amid cyberattack claims

X faces repeated outages, with Elon Musk blaming a cyberattack. Users report global disruptions while alternative platforms remain stable.

The social media platform X has been experiencing repeated outages throughout Monday morning, preventing posts from loading on both mobile and desktop. Users have reported issues with timelines failing to refresh and the site getting stuck in an endless loading loop. According to Downdetector, the first major disruption started around 5:40 AM ET and affected many users.

Attempts to access X on a web browser have resulted in an error message reading, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” Some users have also encountered Cloudflare error pages indicating a “Host Error” when connecting to X.com.

The loading issues are widespread, with NetBlocks confirming that users worldwide face difficulties. Reports of the outage have been shared across other social media platforms as X users look for updates and alternatives.

Elon Musk claims massive cyberattack

X has not officially responded to the situation, but company owner Elon Musk addressed the issue in a tweet at around 1:30 PM ET. Musk claimed the platform faced a “massive cyberattack,” suggesting that a well-funded group or even a nation-state might be responsible.

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,” Musk stated. “We get attacked daily, but this was done with many resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing …”

While Musk’s claim adds an element of concern, he has previously blamed cyberattacks for similar outages, sometimes without providing further details. Whether the disruptions are due to an attack or technical issues within the platform remains unclear.

X alternatives remain unaffected

As X struggles with service interruptions, rival platforms like Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon continue to operate without issues. Some X users have taken the opportunity to explore these alternative social networks while waiting for X to stabilise.

At the moment, X remains unstable, with intermittent outages. Users have sometimes been able to refresh their feeds, but the platform has yet to return to full functionality. Whether X will provide an official statement or clarify the cyberattack claims remains to be seen.
