Apple teams up with Anthropic to create AI-powered coding platform

Apple partners with Anthropic to build an AI coding tool using Claude Sonnet, boosting internal development with future potential.

Apple is working with artificial intelligence company Anthropic to build a new software platform to write, test, and edit code for developers using generative AI. As reported by Bloomberg, this upcoming platform is described as a “vibe-coding” tool, and it could mark a major shift in how developers work within Apple’s ecosystem.

According to the report, Apple plans to use the platform internally. The company has not decided whether to release the tool for public use. This AI system is built into a new version of Apple’s well-known development software, Xcode, and is powered by Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model.

A quiet but strong push into AI

This project is part of Apple’s broader push into artificial intelligence. While Apple has traditionally been cautious about AI announcements compared to other tech companies, it is now forming key partnerships to strengthen its position in the field.

Earlier this year, Apple introduced its “Apple Intelligence” features, some of which are powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Apple has also hinted that Google’s Gemini model could be included as an alternative, giving users more flexibility regarding AI tools.

Now, with the help of Anthropic, Apple is focusing on software development. If successful, this internal platform could streamline coding tasks for Apple’s engineers by generating and improving code more efficiently. Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model, which powers this new AI platform, has already earned a solid reputation among developers. It’s especially popular for coding-related tasks on Cursor and Windsurf, which focus on providing a more intuitive and collaborative coding experience—sometimes called “vibe coding.”

These platforms are designed to feel more natural and supportive, allowing coders to work faster without feeling overwhelmed. Apple aims to replicate this helpful, human-like interaction within Xcode by using Claude’s capabilities.
