Bethesda releases The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – and you can play it now

Bethesda released Oblivion Remastered, which features full visual upgrades and quality-of-life improvements and is now available across major platforms.

After years of speculation, you can finally return to Cyrodiil in high definition. Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, bringing one of its most beloved games back to life with major improvements. The game is available across multiple platforms; you won’t have to wait another moment to get your hands on it.

A fresh take on a classic RPG

If you loved the original Oblivion in 2006, you’ll be glad to know this isn’t just a quick update. This is a full remake. Bethesda began the remaster project in 2021, teaming up with Virtuos, a Singapore-based studio known for producing high-quality game remakes. You might know them from their work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023) and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (2025).

The remake uses Bethesda’s Creation Engine to keep the gameplay familiar, but the visual overhaul is powered by Unreal Engine 5. That means you’re getting a new look while keeping the classic mechanics and world design intact.

Every single game asset has been rebuilt from scratch. Character models now have more detail, and there are big improvements to lip-syncing, lighting, and weather effects. You’ll also enjoy playing in 4K at 60 frames per second – a big jump from the original.

Improvements go beyond graphics

The changes aren’t just visual. Bethesda has added several quality-of-life updates to make the game easier and more enjoyable. The heads-up display (HUD), menu system, and map interface have all been redesigned for smoother navigation. Key systems like Persuasion and Clairvoyance now have updated interfaces, making them easier to use.

Combat has been rebalanced with improved enemy scaling, and character progression has been fine-tuned. You’ll also notice better handling of in-game weight and level mechanics, helping you stay immersed in your journey through Tamriel.

If you’re returning to Oblivion after a long break – or playing for the first time – you’ll find the gameplay experience much more polished and modern.

How to get your copy

You can buy The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered today on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Xbox Store or Steam. It comes in two versions:

  • Standard Edition – Includes the base game and both expansions: Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.
  • Deluxe Edition – Offers everything in the Standard Edition, plus new quests with unique armour and weapons, a digital artbook, and a soundtrack app.

The Standard Edition costs S$69, while the Deluxe Edition is S$81. If you’re a subscriber to Xbox Game Pass, you’re lucky – the Standard Edition is included in your subscription at no extra cost.

Bethesda’s remaster offers both nostalgia and innovation. Whether revisiting an old favourite or diving into Oblivion for the first time, this version promises to be the best way to experience the game.
