Dune: Awakening launches on PS5 and XBOX Series X|S on 22 September with single-player, Game Pass, and new updates.
Funcom will release Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S on 22 September 2026, bringing the open-world survival game to consoles with full single-player support and a wider update across PC and console.
Table Of Content
Pre-orders are now available on both PlayStation and XBOX. The standard edition will be priced at US$49.99, while the Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition will cost US$69.99 and US$89.99 respectively. Pre-order rewards include a head start for players who buy the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition.
Console release includes the updated PC experience
Dune: Awakening is inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune and Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster franchise. The console version will offer the same experience as PC, with controls and UI optimised for PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S. Funcom is targeting 60fps on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X in Performance Mode.
The September release also brings together the content, features, and improvements that have been added to PC over the past year, alongside new additions arriving for both PC and console.
Funcom CEO Rui Casais said the release represents a wider update for the game. “But this release is so much more than just bringing the game to consoles,” said Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “To Funcom, it’s a major milestone, the result of over a year of work that culminates in the release of a new and improved Dune: Awakening. The best version yet of Dune: Awakening, on PC and console.”
Funcom also premiered the first PlayStation 5 gameplay footage at Sony’s State of Play event, giving players an early look at the console version ahead of launch.
Single-player mode changes how the game can be played
The full game can now be played entirely in single-player. Funcom said the mode will include scalable difficulty and a broad set of gameplay customisation settings, allowing players to adjust elements such as harvesting rates, experience gain, and combat difficulty.
The September release will also complete Book One, adding the grand finale to Dune: Awakening’s cinematic storyline. Players will be able to experience the story from start to finish, whether in single-player, private or self-hosted servers, or large-scale multiplayer on official servers.
Multiplayer players will also have more control over how they engage with the game. Funcom said Dune: Awakening can be played fully in PvE, including the Deep Desert and participation in the faction-versus-faction conflict. Other updates include a rebuilt late-game loop, vehicle backup and base reconstruction tools, new map locations, character re-customisation, removal of taxes, and other quality-of-life changes.
Creative Director Joel Bylos said the game also draws from the wider Dune universe. “For those who want to take a deeper dive on Arrakis, Dune: Awakening offers the ultimate opportunity to step into the books and movies and experience one of science fiction’s most iconic worlds up close,” said Creative Director Joel Bylos. “For fans of the movies, we also have tie-in content lined up this year.”
XBOX Game Pass and The Polar Cap arrive in September and beyond
Dune: Awakening will be available with XBOX Game Pass from 22 September. The game will also support XBOX Play Anywhere, allowing cross-play between XBOX and Microsoft Store players, as well as shared progress across both platforms.
The game will support the ROG XBOX Ally and XBOX Cloud Gaming. On PC, it is Steam Deck verified and available through GeForce Now.
Funcom has also outlined plans for post-launch content. The Polar Cap, a new Hagga Basin-like survival map set at the Arrakis pole, will arrive as a free update later this year. The new area will introduce additional content and survival mechanics in an icy biome.
