ESET introduces ransomware remediation in latest ESET PROTECT platform update

ESET updates its PROTECT Platform with ransomware remediation, AI upgrades, and stronger email protection to help businesses stay secure.

ESET has announced a major update to its ESET PROTECT Platform, introducing a new Ransomware Remediation feature aimed at helping businesses reduce the long-term impact of ransomware attacks. The update, which became available on 26 March, enhances ESET’s suite of cybersecurity solutions for business customers worldwide.

The company, known for its global expertise in cybersecurity, said the new feature is designed to create secure backups and enable automated file recovery. It joins a set of additional improvements to ESET Cloud Office Security and the ESET AI Advisor, with the goal of strengthening protection for organisations facing increasingly complex digital threats.

Parvinder Walia, President for Asia Pacific & Japan at ESET, said the new tools were built to help companies stay resilient. “As cyber threats continue to evolve in scale and complexity, businesses of all sizes are under mounting pressure to ensure resilient and effective protection,” he said. “Ransomware attacks, in particular, continue to pose a serious threat as cybercriminals seek to undermine every layer of a business’s security.”

He added, “In response, we’ve updated our portfolio with advanced features like ransomware remediation, which allow users to have the ability to recover critical files in the event of a ransomware attack. These updates are designed to help organisations and partners strengthen their security posture and stay ahead in an increasingly challenging digital environment.”

Advanced ransomware protection for business continuity

The Ransomware Remediation (RR) feature works by creating secure backups of important data, offering businesses the ability to restore affected files without significant delays. RR is integrated with ESET’s existing real-time Ransomware Shield, further minimising downtime and cutting potential recovery costs.

One of RR’s key advantages lies in its approach to data protection. While many existing solutions rely on the Windows Volume Shadow Copy service—which can be targeted and manipulated by attackers—ESET’s RR uses its own protected storage. This dedicated section of the drive is designed so that files stored within cannot be modified, corrupted, or deleted by ransomware, making recovery more dependable even in severe attacks.

However, RR does come with certain limitations. It supports individual files up to 30MB in size and relies on available drive space. As such, system administrators are advised to configure RR to prioritise key file types that are most critical to business operations.

Updates to ESET Cloud Office Security and AI Advisor

Alongside the RR feature, ESET has rolled out enhancements to its Cloud Office Security. The latest version now includes advanced anti-spoofing features, which help detect and block messages from impostors. It also adds homoglyph protection, aimed at identifying misleading characters in domains and URLs that are often used to trick users into revealing sensitive information. These updates offer stronger protection against phishing emails, which remain a common threat to corporate inboxes.

ESET AI Advisor, a generative AI tool built to assist security analysts, has also been improved. Designed to support day-to-day security operations, it provides deeper analysis and can now be integrated more easily into existing workflows. This assistant is available as an add-on for customers subscribed to ESET PROTECT Enterprise and ESET PROTECT Elite.

Targeting the growing threat of ransomware

ESET noted that ransomware attacks have grown more sophisticated, with cybercriminals not only encrypting systems but also attempting to disable or delete backups. By cutting off access to both systems and recovery files, attackers increase the chances that victims will pay ransom fees to regain control. These incidents can lead to severe disruptions and high remediation costs for affected businesses.

ESET’s latest update aims to close this gap in protection. With its new ransomware remediation feature and upgraded AI and email security tools, the company hopes to give businesses better control over their cybersecurity defences and help them recover more quickly in the event of an attack.

The Ransomware Remediation feature is available at no extra cost for customers with ESET PROTECT Advanced tier and above, making it a valuable addition for businesses already using the platform.
