Reports suggest that Facebook is planning to launch a mobile gaming app on Monday, which will have its focus on live game streaming in its bid to take on YouTube, Microsoft’s Mixer, and Amazon’s Twitch, according to the New York Times.

The app was initially planned to be released in June, but Facebook moved up its plans as COVID-19 continues to keep more and more people at home. “Investing in gaming, in general, has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that really connects people,” Fidji Simo, the head of the gaming app, was quoted in the article.

“It is entertainment that’s not just a form of passive consumption but entertainment that is interactive and brings people together,” Simo added.

This new app will include casual games and access to the gaming communities, the New York Times further added. The version for iOS will be released as soon as Apple gives its approval. Facebook is yet to respond to the request for comment from Reuters.
