Fortnite to reintroduce Peacemaker dance after clarifying Nazi concerns

Fortnite will bring back the Peacemaker dance emote on 9 October after confirming it was not linked to Nazi imagery.

Epic Games has confirmed that the Peacemaker dance emote will return to Fortnite after being temporarily removed due to concerns over possible Nazi imagery. The company suspended the emote following a storyline twist in season 2 of HBO’s Peacemaker, which led some viewers to believe that the choreography could resemble a swastika when viewed across multiple frames.

The emote, called Peaceful Hips, is based on the dance performed by John Cena’s character Chris Smith, also known as Peacemaker, in the series’ introduction. After comparisons surfaced online, Epic Games removed the animation while it investigated whether the resemblance had been intentional.

On 2 October, the official Fortnite account on X stated: “We’ve worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Games to confirm there were no creative intentions to connect the Peaceful Hips Emote and the current Peacemaker storyline. To avoid any confusion, we’re modifying the Emote choreography in next week’s update. If they prefer, players can return the Emote without using a ticket.”

The controversy began after the latest season of Peacemaker revealed an alternate universe in which Nazi Germany had won the Second World War, leaving the United States under fascist control. Viewers noticed that when parts of the Peaceful Hips emote were paused and overlaid, the arm and leg movements appeared to create a swastika-like pattern.

Although the resemblance was never shown in the series itself, the timing of the emote’s release led to speculation that the animation may have been deliberately designed to echo the storyline. Epic Games halted distribution of the emote while working with Warner Bros. Games to review its origin and intent.

Following the review, the company confirmed that the similarity was coincidental and stated that the dance would be updated to prevent further misunderstanding.

Return set for next Fortnite reset

The Peaceful Hips emote will be reintroduced in Fortnite during the game’s next content reset on 9 October, with slightly altered choreography. Epic Games has assured players that the emote’s revised version will maintain its connection to Peacemaker while avoiding any confusion with Nazi imagery.

Fans are also eager to see whether the new version will match the music more closely, as the dance does in the Peacemaker series intro. Players will be able to judge for themselves once the update goes live next week.
