Google increases daily prompt limits for the Gemini Thinking model
Google separates Gemini Thinking and Pro model limits, boosting daily prompts for smoother AI use.
Google has updated the usage limits for its Gemini AI models, allowing users to access the Thinking model without affecting their daily allowance on the Pro model. Previously, both models shared a single quota, meaning prompts for complex reasoning, advanced mathematics, or coding counted against the same limit. This often forced users to choose between experimenting with different tasks or conserving their prompt allowance.
According to 9to5Google, the new system assigns each model its own daily limit. For subscribers on the Google AI Pro plan, the Thinking model now allows up to 300 prompts per day, while the Pro model remains capped at 100 prompts. Users on the Google AI Ultra plan benefit from higher limits, with 1,500 prompts for the Thinking model and 500 for the Pro model each day. Free-tier users can still access both models, though Google describes this access as “Basic access – daily limits may change frequently” on its support page.
Reduced conflict between tasks for users
The changes are designed to prevent users from depleting their quota when tackling complex reasoning problems. The Thinking model is optimised for multi-step problem solving and analysis, while the Pro model is aimed at advanced coding and mathematical tasks. With separate allowances, users can now focus on one model without worrying that their activity will limit access to the other.
This adjustment is handy for those who rely on Gemini for extended work sessions. Users who previously found the shared quota restrictive now have greater flexibility to experiment with different query types. By distinguishing between the models’ capacities, Google ensures that high-demand tasks do not interfere with one another.
Balancing demand and availability
The update also reflects Google’s effort to manage demand while maintaining stable performance. Gemini 3 has gained considerable popularity since its launch, prompting Google to occasionally tighten free-tier access and limit prompt counts during periods of high traffic. By increasing the caps for Pro and Ultra plans, the company aims to provide users with more reliable access and fewer interruptions during intensive use.
Google has not indicated whether further adjustments to the free-tier limits are planned. However, separating the quotas allows subscribers to plan their workflow more effectively, knowing they have a predictable number of prompts each day. As AI tools continue to see widespread adoption, measures such as these help balance user needs with system capacity, ensuring a smoother experience for both casual and professional users.
