Lego unveils a Mario and Yoshi set inspired by Super Mario World

Lego's latest Nintendo set features Mario and Yoshi from Super Mario World, combining nostalgia and creativity with interactive elements.

Lego has unveiled its latest collaboration with Nintendo at San Diego Comic-Con: a pixelated recreation of Mario and Yoshi from the beloved 16-bit Super Nintendo game Super Mario World. This new set is designed for display but includes hidden moving parts that bring Yoshi to life excitingly.

A nostalgic design with hidden surprises

The 1,215-piece set stands over 15 inches tall once assembled. It features a yellow-caped Mario riding Yoshi on a grass-covered hill. The front of the set, made from Lego tiles, is a highly accurate recreation of the 16-bit sprites from Super Mario World, capturing the nostalgic look of the original game.

When you turn the set around, you’ll see why it’s perfect for display. Lego’s designers have included two mechanisms to mimic the game’s sprite animations. Turning a crank at the base can make Yoshi’s legs move as if he’s running. There’s also a knob on the back that opens Yoshi’s mouth and makes his bright red tongue pop in and out, adding a fun interactive element to the display.

Available for preorder now

The Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set is now available for preorder on Lego’s online store for US$129.99. It will begin shipping on October 1st. This set is the fifth adult-focused product released as part of Lego and Nintendo’s ongoing partnership. Previous sets include the 2,646-piece NES console, the 2,807-piece Mighty Bowser, the 540-piece Piranha Plant, and the 2,064-piece transforming question mark block.

Each of these sets has been designed with the same attention to detail and love for the original games, making them a hit with both Lego and Nintendo fans. The new Mario & Yoshi set continues this trend, offering a delightful combination of nostalgia and creativity that will appeal to anyone who loves playing Super Mario World.

A must-have for collectors

If you’re a fan of Super Mario or a collector of unique Lego sets, this Mario and Yoshi set is a must-have. The detailed design and interactive elements make it a standout piece in any collection. Whether you’re displaying it on a shelf or showing off the moving parts to friends and family, this set will surely bring a smile to your face.
