Murena launches ‘deGoogled’ Pixel Tablet for privacy-conscious users

Murena launches a privacy-focused Pixel Tablet without Google apps, running /e/OS for a secure, deGoogled experience. It is now available for US$549.

If you love the idea of a Pixel Tablet but want to avoid Google’s data tracking, Murena has the solution. The French privacy-focused company has adapted Google’s tablet by removing all pre-installed Google apps and services, replacing them with its privacy-friendly alternatives. Now, you can enjoy a tablet experience without Google collecting your personal information.

The Murena Pixel Tablet runs on /e/OS, an open-source operating system designed to minimise data tracking while maintaining Android versatility. It features a 10.95-inch LCD and promises a secure, private experience. Murena describes the device as offering “all the performance and versatility you need while minimising data tracking, having a more secure experience, and with no Google services collecting your personal information.”

What to expect from Murena’s Pixel Tablet

The Pixel Tablet has 128 GB of internal storage and 8 GB of RAM, making it powerful enough for everyday tasks. It is now available to purchase through Murena’s online store for €539 in Europe or US$549 in the U.S.

Since this is a ‘deGoogled’ device, you won’t find the Google Play Store pre-installed. Instead, Murena offers its app marketplace, called App Lounge. This store allows users to download apps from Google Play and F-Droid while remaining anonymous. However, you must still sign in with a Google account to access paid apps.

Privacy-focused alternatives

Building a completely independent app marketplace without relying on Google is challenging, but Murena has been working on its suite of alternatives. The company offers privacy-friendly solutions to popular services such as Google Drive and Office 365. Users of the Pixel Tablet can use Murena’s Workspace, a cloud storage and office suite that provides up to 1 GB of free storage, with paid plans available for additional space.

Murena’s commitment to digital privacy has gained attention with its range of ‘deGoogled’ smartphones. Now, with the launch of its Pixel Tablet, the company is expanding its vision to tablet users who value privacy and data security.
