Opera integrates Google’s Gemini AI into the Aria extension

Opera integrates Google's Gemini AI into its Aria extension, offering users up-to-date information and conversational responses.

Opera browser users are in for a treat. They will now be able to access more current information and engage in conversational responses. This is all thanks to the integration of Google’s Gemini AI models into the existing Aria AI extension, a move designed to enhance your browsing experience.

What Aria offers

Aria, which was launched last year, is not your typical AI assistant. It’s a game-changer. It can help with various tasks, such as answering questions, writing code, and more. But what really sets Aria apart is its ability to choose the best AI model for each specific task, a feature that is now further enhanced with the inclusion of Gemini. With this powerful duo, Aria can now provide you with “the most current information at high performance,” according to Opera. Aria is available across all Opera browsers, including the gaming-focused Opera GX.

The Gemini family of models

The Gemini AI models include several versions with different sizes and capabilities. The smallest, Gemini Nano, is designed for mobile devices. The medium-sized models, Gemini Pro 1.5 and Gemini Pro 1.5 Flash, offer more robust features, while the most advanced, Gemini Ultra, powers the Gemini chatbot. With the new integration, users can experience Aria reading its responses out loud in a conversational manner. This feature, powered by Google’s text-to-audio AI, is similar to ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature.

A history of collaboration

This integration is a testament to the strong collaboration between Opera and Google’s AI models. In April, Aria added an image generation feature using Google’s Imagen 2 model, a move that was well-received by our users. Now, with the integration of Gemini, we are taking another step forward in enhancing your browsing experience.

Opera continues to enhance its browsing experience with cutting-edge AI technology, making it a versatile tool for users seeking the latest information and interactive features.
