Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake to be released on multiple platforms

the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

After three years of eager anticipation, Square Enix has finally unveiled the platforms for the long-awaited Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake. Brace yourselves, Dragon Quest fans, as this epic adventure will soon be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam).

Square Enix’s distinctive HD-2D technology

Prepare to be captivated by the stunning visual upgrade that Square Enix’s HD-2D technology will bring to Dragon Quest 3. This innovative technology, previously showcased in Octopath Traveller, Triangle Strategy, the Live A Live remake, and the Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster’s opera scene, is set to breathe new life into the game, nearly three decades after its original release in 1988.

Anticipated release

The wait for the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake may be coming to an end sooner than expected. The teaser hinted that the game is ‘drawing near,’ a few months after series creator Yuji Horii confirmed he was playtesting it. With Summer Game Fest and its associated events just around the corner, the gaming community is buzzing with anticipation, hoping to get more details about the remake. This exciting news is sure to keep Dragon Quest fans on the edge of their seats.

As we celebrate Dragon Quest Day, marking the anniversary of the series’ debut in Japan in 1986, let’s also look to the future. While there’s no official release date yet, series creator Yuji Horii assures us that Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is in the works, aiming to honour the legacies of key Dragon Quest creatives Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama.

Updates on Dragon Quest XII

“Thank you so much to everyone for the many [Dragon Quest Day] congratulations!” Horii wrote on X, according to a Gematsu translation. “There has been some worry about Dragon Quest XII, but I was in a meeting [about it] until just a bit ago. While I can’t share any details yet, I want it to be something worthy of the posthumous work of the two [Toriyama and Sugiyama] who passed away. I’ll do my best!”

The anticipation for the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake is building. Fans look forward to experiencing the classic game with modern visuals and technology. Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches.
