Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 for mid-range Android phones

Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, which offers AI-powered features, gaming enhancements, 5G connectivity, and better performance for mid-range phones.

Qualcomm has introduced its latest processor for mid-range smartphones, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. Designed to offer improved performance, better efficiency, and AI-powered features, this new chipset brings significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.

Improved performance and AI capabilities

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 delivers an 11% boost in CPU performance and up to 29% better GPU performance than the previous generation. In addition, Qualcomm has improved power efficiency, with the new chipset consuming 12% less energy, making it more battery-friendly.

One of the standout features of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is its AI capabilities. This is the first time Qualcomm has included Gen AI and INT4 support in this series, allowing for features such as voice-activated assistants, enhanced background noise reduction during calls, and on-device AI tasks like content summarisation and email drafting.

Gaming and connectivity enhancements

Qualcomm has introduced Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, a technology that intelligently upscales visuals from 1080p to 4K for mobile gamers. This feature enhances graphics quality while optimising performance and battery usage, delivering a smoother gaming experience.

On the connectivity front, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 has the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system, which supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G spectrums. The modem allows peak download speeds of up to 2.9Gbps, ensuring fast and stable connections. Additionally, the chipset supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, improving wireless performance.

High refresh rate display and camera support

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 supports FHD+ displays with refresh rates up to 144Hz, providing a fluid and responsive experience for users who enjoy fast-scrolling or high-refresh gaming. It also features Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, which enables faster charging times.

For photography enthusiasts, the new chipset supports single-camera resolutions of up to 200MP, enabling high-quality images on mid-range devices.

Qualcomm has confirmed that leading smartphone brands such as Realme, OPPO, and Honor will launch devices powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 in the coming months.
