Resident Evil Requiem returns to Raccoon City with new story and hero, coming February 2026

Resident Evil Requiem, which launches on February 27, 2026, takes you back to Raccoon City with a new lead and chilling story.

If you’re a long-time Resident Evil fan, you’re in for a treat. Capcom has officially revealed Resident Evil Requiem, the next big chapter in the popular survival horror series. The announcement came during the Summer Game Fest held earlier this past weekend. And this time, you’ll return to the series’ most iconic setting—Raccoon City.

This new game isn’t another remake. Instead, Resident Evil Requiem is a brand-new story and marks the ninth main entry in the franchise. You’ll explore a post-destruction Raccoon City years after the events of Resident Evil 3. The atmosphere is eerie, with crumbling streets and familiar landmarks, like the Raccoon Police Department sign, now surrounded by ruins.

But you won’t be stepping into the shoes of a classic character. Instead, you’ll follow Grace Ashcroft, a new protagonist with a surprising connection to the past. Grace is an FBI agent investigating a strange outbreak that seems to be spreading. Her mission takes her to the Wrenwood Hotel, where another body has turned up. The twist? Her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, was killed there years ago.

If the name Alyssa Ashcroft rings a bell, she was featured in Resident Evil Outbreak in 2002. She was a journalist in Raccoon City when everything started going wrong. Now, her daughter is caught in the city’s haunted legacy, searching for answers—and possibly revenge.

Survival horror returns to its roots

Capcom has been praised in recent years for returning to survival horror with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. That focus looks set to continue with Requiem. You’ll find yourself in tense, dark environments that require smart thinking and careful resource management. The game promises deep immersion, which Capcom strongly highlights in early previews.

While we don’t know exactly how Grace ends up in Raccoon City, the trailer shows detailed visuals of the wreckage, hinting at a moody and gripping atmosphere. Expect a blend of suspense, puzzle-solving, and the classic Resident Evil style that keeps you on edge from start to finish.

Mark your calendar for February 2026

You won’t have to wait too long to dive into the ruins of Raccoon City once again. Resident Evil Requiem will officially launch on February 27, 2026. Even better, if you plan to attend Gamescom 2025, you can play an early demo there.

The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, so whether you’re a console or PC player, you’ll have access to this haunting new chapter in the Resident Evil saga.

With a brand new lead character, a chilling new story, and a return to one of the most iconic locations in gaming, Resident Evil Requiem looks set to bring fresh thrills to fans old and new.
