Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 dummy unit leak shows off its ultra-thin design

The Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 7 dummy unit reveals an ultra-slim 4.5mm thickness. The official launch is expected on July 9.

If you’ve been following the buzz around the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, you’ll be excited to know that a new dummy unit has just surfaced—shedding more light on how slim this upcoming foldable is. A recently leaked hands-on video gives you a closer look at what might be the sleekest Galaxy Fold yet.

Dummy unit shows Fold 7’s slimmer profile

The leak comes from YouTuber TheSinza and was picked up by 9to5Google. In the video, the dummy unit is directly compared with earlier Samsung foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6. These dummy models don’t function as phones—accessory manufacturers often use them to prepare cases and other products before launch. But they’re typically accurate regarding dimensions, as they’re based on detailed schematics from supply chain leaks.

So, how thin is it? According to the video, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures just 4.5mm when unfolded. That’s noticeably thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which came in at 5.6mm. However, it’s still slightly thicker than the Oppo Find N5, currently the thinnest foldable, at 4.21mm.

That difference may seem small on paper, but every fraction of a millimetre counts in your hand or pocket—especially regarding foldables.

Rumours supported by previous leaks

This isn’t the first time you’ve heard whispers of a slimmer Z Fold. Ever since late last year, industry insiders have hinted that Samsung was working on shaving down the Fold’s profile. While nothing is confirmed until launch day, the growing number of leaks all seem to back this up.

Just yesterday, new Galaxy Z Fold 7 renders appeared online, again showing off a noticeably thin design. These images also revealed a camera bump that might be larger than expected. This is something to remember if you’re worried about the phone wobbling on flat surfaces or if you’re a fan of slim cases.

Battery and camera trade-offs?

A thinner design often means compromises, especially in foldables. You might wonder how Samsung will maintain decent camera quality and battery life in such a compact build.

The good news is that rumours suggest Samsung will introduce new battery technology that allows the phone to stay powered for longer, even with limited space inside the chassis. As for the cameras’ real-world performance, it will only become clear after hands-on testing, but Samsung has historically done well in this department.

If you’re looking forward to Samsung’s next Unpacked event, mark your calendar. According to the leak, Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on July 9, which falls on a Wednesday. Alongside it, expect to see the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and at least one model of the Galaxy Watch 8.

With only a few weeks to go, more detailed leaks and even official teasers are likely coming. But if this dummy unit is anything to go by, Samsung’s next foldable will not just be powerful—it will be impressively thin, too.
