Samsung’s triple-folding phone launch delayed until 2026

Samsung's triple-folding phone launch was delayed until 2026 due to design challenges and strategic timing with Apple's foldable release.

Samsung’s innovative triple-folding phone, seen as a potential rival to Huawei’s Mate X series, may hit the market later than expected.

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the highly anticipated device could launch in early 2026 rather than this year as some had hoped. Young shared this update on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting a longer wait for fans of cutting-edge foldable technology.

This new timeline contrasts slightly with earlier claims by Korean blogger yeux1122, who speculated that a “Fold 7 Variant (Triple)” might debut in 2025. However, Samsung seems to be taking its time with this revolutionary design.

Why the delay?

There are two key reasons why Samsung might be pushing the launch of its triple-folding phone to 2026.

Firstly, the technical challenges of creating a triple-folding device cannot be underestimated. With more folds come increased complexity in the hinge mechanism, durability, and display design. Samsung is likely refining these elements to ensure the phone meets high reliability and user experience standards.

Secondly, Samsung may want to time the release to align with Apple’s rumoured entry into the foldable phone market. By launching its next major innovation alongside Apple’s anticipated foldable device, Samsung could strategically position itself to compete head-to-head and grab headlines.

More foldable phones are in the works

Although the triple-folding phone may be delayed, Samsung still has a packed schedule for its foldable lineup. Rumours suggest that three new Samsung foldable devices could be released in 2025.

These include two versions of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and a new iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip7. Additionally, there is speculation about a Galaxy Z Flip FE (Fan Edition) model being in development, aimed at offering foldable technology at a more affordable price point.

While fans may have to wait longer for the triple-folding phone, Samsung’s continued focus on foldables ensures exciting times ahead in this competitive market.
