Sandmarc launches 10x optical zoom lens for iPhones, leaving Android users amused

[output_post_excerpt]

Apple’s iPhone cameras are known for their impressive quality, but they have their limitations. One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of built-in 10x optical zoom, which many flagship Android phones already offer. While Apple’s software tricks can enhance zoom capabilities, they still fall short of true optical zoom.

A solution for iPhone users seeking better zoom

Sandmarc, a company known for creating high-quality accessories for photographers and videographers, has addressed this issue. It has launched the Sandmarc Telephoto 10x Lens for iPhone, an attachable optical zoom lens designed to improve long-range photography.

The lens offers a 240mm focal length and attaches to the iPhone using a Sandmarc phone case (included) or a clip-on mount. This lets users fully utilise the iPhone’s powerful main camera while achieving a true 10x optical zoom. Unlike digital zoom, which often loses image quality, this optical lens maintains sharpness and clarity.

One of the standout features is its adjustable focus wheel, giving users greater control over their shots. The lens also creates a natural bokeh effect, avoiding the artificial blur seen in digital post-processing. Additionally, it is compatible with Sandmarc’s range of filters, which help reduce glare, enhance colours, and soften harsh lighting.

Low-light performance and handling

Since this is an optical zoom lens, it performs well in low-light conditions without introducing excessive noise, a common issue with digital zoom. Using the iPhone’s main camera, the lens captures more detail and reduces the graininess often found in zoomed-in shots in darker environments.

However, there is a catch. The Sandmarc Telephoto 10x Lens is not the lightest accessory. Weighing 310g, it is heavier than Apple’s Pro Max models, including the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max (227g). This means you’ll need a steady grip—probably with both hands—to handle the additional weight comfortably.

Price and availability

The Sandmarc Telephoto 10x Lens for iPhone is available for purchase on Sandmarc’s official website, retailing at US$299.99 (S$398.74). While this might be a steep price for some, it offers a practical solution for iPhone users who want professional-level zoom without switching to an Android device.

Meanwhile, Android users, who have had a built-in 10x optical zoom for some time now, are amused by this development.
