Sharp launches AQUOS wish5 smartphone in Singapore with focus on safety and sustainability

Sharp launches AQUOS wish5 in Singapore, featuring vibration SOS alert, military-grade durability, and eco-conscious materials.

Sharp has unveiled its latest smartphone, the AQUOS wish5, in Singapore, offering a unique combination of security, durability, and eco-conscious design. The device is the first in the world to include a vibration-activated SOS alert and is built with features that support both everyday usability and environmental responsibility.

Safety features designed for peace of mind

The standout feature of the AQUOS wish5 is its vibration-triggered security alert system. Users can activate a loud alarm and automatically notify pre-registered contacts by simply shaking the phone, even when it is stored in a bag. The emergency system also sends the user’s location via SMS, offering a quick and discreet way to call for help. In addition, an AI-powered call assistant blocks suspicious calls by analysing call content based on fraud cases, and transcribes voicemails into text for easy reference.

“With safety, sustainability and usability at its core, the AQUOS wish5 brings meaningful technology to everyday life,” said Woo Keat Chew, Managing Director of Sharp Singapore. “Beyond smart functionality, this model reflects our belief that technology should also be responsible.”

Built for durability and visual performance

The AQUOS wish5 features a 6.6-inch HD+ LED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering smooth visuals and improved brightness. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, supported by Sharp’s “Intelligent Charge” function, which stops charging at around 90% to reduce battery wear.

The device is certified to IPX9 waterproof standards and meets US military MIL-STD-810H specifications. It can endure high-pressure water jets and withstand high temperatures of up to 80°C. This durability makes the phone suitable for outdoor activities and harsh environments. The high-resolution 50.1-megapixel rear camera, supported by Sharp’s ProPix lite image engine, enables clear image capture in various conditions.

Eco-friendly materials and practical performance

Sharp has placed strong emphasis on sustainability with the AQUOS wish5. Around 60% of the phone’s casing is made from recycled plastic, and the device is painted using low-VOC paint to reduce environmental impact. The phone is available in five colours inspired by nature and Japanese culture: MISORA (blue), NADESHIKO (pink), WAKABA (green), YUKI (white), and SUMI (black).

The device also features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with support for microSD cards up to 2TB. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, which delivers a 20% improvement in CPU performance and 13% in GPU performance compared to its predecessor. Users can expect four years of security updates.

The design of the wish5 continues the popular “free curve” aesthetic introduced in earlier models, created under the guidance of Japanese designer Kazushige Miyake. This design, characterised by rounded edges and a smooth finish, helps the device fit naturally into everyday use.

The AQUOS wish5 is now available in Singapore via Sharp’s CocoroLife e-store, Lazada, Shopee, and selected retailers including Best Denki, Challenger, Courts, and Gain City.
