Sony’s new Astro Bot DualSense controller is now available for preorder

Preorder Sony’s Astro Bot PS5 controller for US$79.99. It features a charming design and enhanced game interactions, launching September 6.

You can now preorder Sony’s latest limited edition DualSense controller for the PS5, themed around the beloved Astro Bot. Priced at US$79.99, the gamepad is available exclusively through the PlayStation Direct shopfront and Antonline. This special controller is set to launch on September 6, coinciding with the release of the highly anticipated new Astro Bot game. If you’ve ever wished your gaming accessories had more personality, this might be the controller you’ve been waiting for.

A charming new design

Sony Interactive Entertainment is no stranger to releasing special-edition controllers to mark the arrival of exclusive games. Last year, they introduced a symbiote-themed controller alongside the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This time, however, Sony has teamed up with developer Team Asobi to create a controller that’s not just special but downright adorable.

The new Astro Bot DualSense controller features shiny blue grips and buttons inspired by Astro’s signature blue colour scheme. The touchpad is particularly eye-catching, adorned with wide, expressive blue eyes that seem to be watching your every move. Adding to its charm, the controller’s handles have subtle carved lines, lending it a futuristic, sci-fi aesthetic that aligns with the Astro Bot universe.

Same great features, with added flair

While the Astro Bot controller looks unique, its functionality remains consistent with the standard DualSense Wireless Controller. You’ll still get the same adaptive triggers, precise motion controls, and immersive haptic feedback that have become the hallmarks of the DualSense experience. The battery life is also on par with the regular model, ensuring you can enjoy extended gaming sessions without worrying about recharging.

However, how it interacts with the upcoming Astro Bot game truly sets this controller apart. According to Team Asobi, the new controller will offer a richer tactile experience, allowing you to feel a broader range of textures and surfaces in the game. Power-ups will also have a more distinctive feel, adding to the immersion. The original Astro’s Playroom was praised for showcasing the potential of the DualSense’s haptics, and it seems the new Astro Bot game will take that experience to the next level.

A must-have for Astro Bot fans

For fans of Astro Bot, this controller is more than just a functional accessory; it’s a collectable piece of gaming history. With its charming design and enhanced game interactions, the limited edition Astro Bot DualSense controller is poised to become a favourite among PS5 players. Whether you’re looking to add a touch of personality to your gaming setup or want to experience the new Astro Bot game to its fullest, this controller is a worthy addition to your collection.
