TikTok broadens its AR Creator Rewards Programme to additional regions

TikTok extends its AR Creator Rewards Programme to more regions, eases entry criteria, and increases payout frequency, encouraging more creators to develop engaging AR effects.

To foster augmented reality (AR) engagement on its platform, TikTok has unveiled an extension to its Creator Effects Rewards programme via its Effect House platform. This initiative provides monetary incentives to creators who develop engaging effects.

Initially rolled out in six regions last May, TikTok has made this programme accessible to a broader set of creators. Those in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam are now welcome to join.

Easing the entry and reward criteria for creators

TikTok has also relaxed the qualification criteria for this programme. Previously, creators needed to have their effects featured in 500,000 videos. Now, they merely need to attain the Gold badge level, which entails having five effects published and at least three of these effects featured in 1,000 videos.

Moreover, TikTok has made it simpler for creators to earn rewards on an individual effect basis.

In the programme’s earlier version, an effect needed to be featured in 500,000 videos to earn rewards. The updated criteria now only require an effect to be featured in 200,000 videos in eligible regions to begin earning rewards.

More frequent payouts with higher ceilings

Furthermore, TikTok has reduced the payout thresholds, enabling creators to receive payments more frequently. Notably, the maximum earnings for a single effect are capped at US$14,000, while a single creator can earn up to US$50,000 per month.

This move aims to balance usage and monetisation, encouraging more creators to develop innovative effects for the platform. By doing so, TikTok expands its creator base and stands a better chance of discovering the next viral AR trend. Every viral AR trend significantly boosts interest and engagement, attracting more users to the app.

While Snapchat has been leading in AR, the rise of mixed reality headsets and AR glasses, driven by tech giants like Apple and Meta, suggests a shift in focus towards effects and effect creation. TikTok is keen to stay ahead in this trend, and initiatives like this are crucial for the app’s long-term sustainability.
