Xiaomi 15 Ultra leaks reveal Leica-inspired design and powerful camera system

[output_post_excerpt]

Xiaomi is set to launch its latest flagship, the 15 Ultra, and recent leaks suggest it will resemble a Leica camera. Images shared by Android Headlines reveal what appear to be official renders of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, featuring a camera design that goes beyond just Leica-branded lenses. The phone’s back panel has a duo-tone finish, with white and black vertical strips that mimic the look of a classic Leica camera.

When held sideways, the device’s large, circular camera module and Xiaomi branding in the corner make it look remarkably like a traditional Leica camera. This aligns with earlier leaks from the Chinese social media platform Weibo, where the phone was seen being held like a camera, with a finger placed where a shutter button would typically be. However, the new renders do not confirm the presence of an actual shutter button.

High-end camera specs with a 200MP periscope lens

Xiaomi has already teased the 15 Ultra’s camera capabilities, sharing a sample image taken with the device. According to reports from GSM Arena, the phone is expected to feature a powerful new camera system, possibly including a 200-megapixel periscope lens. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, confirmed that the smartphone will be officially launched at the end of February alongside the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.

Leaked specifications obtained by Android Headlines further confirm the phone’s high-end camera setup. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to have a 50-megapixel optically stabilised main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel 3x optical zoom telephoto lens with optical stabilisation. A 4.3x periscope zoom camera is also listed, reinforcing the earlier speculation about the 200-megapixel sensor. For selfies, the phone is equipped with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

Premium performance with Snapdragon 8 Elite and fast charging

Beyond the camera system, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is packed with top-tier hardware. It is said to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, ensuring high performance. The battery is a substantial 5,410mAh and supports 90W wired HyperCharge, 80W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The device is expected to come in configurations of 16GB RAM with either 512GB or 1TB of storage, depending on the region.

The display will be a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3200×1440 pixels. It will feature a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and an in-display fingerprint reader for security.

Xiaomi has previously experimented with Leica-branded designs, including the concept 12S Ultra, which could mount a full-size Leica lens. The company also introduced a camera grip accessory for the 13 Ultra. With the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the brand appears to be embracing its Leica collaboration to push the boundaries of smartphone photography.

The official launch is expected at the end of February when Xiaomi will reveal more details about its latest flagship device. Until then, these leaks provide an exciting glimpse into what could be one of the most advanced camera smartphones of the year.
