Zotac’s gaming handheld is set to launch for pre-order after Gamescom 2024

Zotac's Gaming Zone handheld, featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U and AMOLED display, will be available for pre-order after Gamescom 2024.

You’ll soon be able to pre-order Zotac’s latest gaming handheld, the Gaming Zone, following the conclusion of Gamescom 2024. A press release shared earlier today states that the device will be available in select regions through “exclusive e-tailers.” However, Zotac has not specified which regions or countries will be included in this initial launch.

If you’re in Singapore, you’re in luck. A quick look at Zotac Singapore’s website confirms that the Gaming Zone will be available there, with pre-orders through the brand’s Lazada e-store and retail partners such as Tech Dynamic.

When and where to get your hands on the Gaming Zone

Gamescom 2024 is set to take place in Cologne, Germany, from August 21 to 25. You can expect Zotac to reveal more details about availability and pricing during or shortly after the event. While the exact launch date isn’t confirmed, the Gaming Zone is expected to hit the market in September, with a likely price of around US$800.

A look at the Gaming Zone’s specifications

The Gaming Zone has impressive features designed to enhance your gaming experience. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 8840U with Radeon 780M Integrated Graphics
  • Display: 7-inch Full HD AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and 800 nits brightness
  • Controls: Elite controls featuring Hall Effect triggers and analogue sticks
  • Triggers: 2-stage adjustable triggers for precise input
  • Settings: Radial dials for quick system adjustments
  • Controller Layout: Full-sized symmetrical layout with dual trackpads
  • Connectivity: Dual USB4 ports, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E
  • Extras: A built-in kickstand and a 1-month free Xbox Game Pass with every new purchase

Interestingly, Zotac has opted not to use AMD’s Ryzen Z1 (Phoenix) Extreme CPU or Intel’s Meteor Lake Core Ultra series. Instead, the Gaming Zone is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U (Hawk Point) processor. This choice is notable because the Ryzen 7 8840U is quite similar to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, with the main difference being the presence of a Ryzen AI NPU in the 8840U. The Gaming Zone’s AMOLED display also sets it apart from competitors like the ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw, which all use LCD screens.

Additional accessories for the Gaming Zone

Zotac is also planning to release a docking station for the Gaming Zone, including a DisplayPort output over USB-C. This dock can accommodate two additional M.2 SSDs, making it a versatile addition for gamers. Additionally, a water-resistant hardshell case will be available for those needing extra device protection. Both accessories will be sold separately.
