Android Auto beta now supports full-screen gaming

Android Auto’s latest beta introduces full-screen gaming, allowing you to play Candy Crush Soda Saga and Angry Birds 2 while parked.

Google is bringing full gaming support to Android Auto, allowing you to play popular titles like Candy Crush Soda Saga and Angry Birds 2 directly on your car’s touchscreen. This feature is part of the latest Android 14.1 beta update, which is being rolled out to testers.

Only four games are currently supported: Candy Crush Soda Saga, Angry Birds 2, Farm Heroes Saga, and Beach Buggy Racing. To play, you must have the games installed on your phone, and they will only be accessible when the car is in the park. According to 9to5Google, as soon as you shift out of the park, “the game closes immediately and is greyed out within the app drawer and app switcher.”

First fullscreen apps on Android Auto

This update marks a significant change for Android Auto, introducing fullscreen applications. However, whether Google will extend fullscreen support to other types of apps remains unclear. With this update, Android Auto’s functionality is becoming more aligned with cars with Google built-in, which already offers a broader selection of games when the vehicle is parked.

In its March feature update, Google initially announced gaming support for Android Auto, but the company has not yet confirmed when the feature will be available outside of beta testing.

Android Auto’s gaming history

This is not the first time Google has introduced gaming to Android Auto. In 2021, the platform received a small selection of basic HTML5-based titles through Google’s GameSnacks service. However, the latest update offers a more immersive experience with fully developed games designed for a larger screen.

As Google continues to expand Android Auto’s capabilities, it remains to be seen what other new features may arrive in future updates.
