Anker recalls over 481,000 power banks after fire incidents

Anker recalls over 481,000 power banks after reports of fires, offering refunds and gift cards to affected consumers.

Anker has issued a voluntary recall of more than 481,000 power banks following reports of fires and explosions. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) released a formal notice providing further details about the affected devices. According to the agency, 33 incidents involving the power banks have been reported, including four cases that caused minor burn injuries and one incident that resulted in significant property damage.

The recalled products include external batteries used to charge smartphones, tablets, and other devices via USB. One model also features a wireless charging pad. The specific devices affected are the Anker Power Bank (models A1257 and A1647), Anker MagGo Power Bank (model A1652), and Anker Zolo Power Bank (models A1681 and A1689). Consumers can locate the model numbers on the back or side of their units. The power banks were sold through major retailers, including Best Buy, Target, Amazon, AliExpress, Walmart, eBay, and TikTok, between August 2023 and June 2025.

Company statement and safety advice

Anker has stated that the likelihood of a malfunction is “considered minimal.” Still, the company decided to issue the recall globally “out of an abundance of caution” after identifying a potential problem with lithium-ion batteries from one of its suppliers.

The company strongly urges consumers to stop using any recalled power banks immediately. They should be disposed of safely through facilities equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries. Consumers are warned not to place the devices in regular trash, recycling bins, or used battery collection boxes found at retail locations.

Refunds and replacements

Anker is offering customers either a full refund or a gift card that can be used to purchase other Anker products. To claim a refund or replacement, consumers must complete a form providing the serial number of the recalled power bank along with proof of purchase.

The recall highlights the potential risks associated with lithium-ion batteries and reinforces the importance of following manufacturer guidance for safe use and disposal.
