Meta unveils second-generation Ray-Ban smart glasses with longer battery life and 3K video recording

Meta launches Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 smart glasses with double the battery life, 3K video recording, and new audio features.

Meta has introduced the latest version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, offering twice the battery life of the previous model and new video recording capabilities. Officially named the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, the glasses are available to order now, starting at US$379.

Extended battery performance

One of the most notable improvements is the extended battery life. The new model can run for up to eight hours on a single charge, doubling the four-hour limit of the first generation. The charging case has also been upgraded, delivering a 50% charge in just 20 minutes, compared with 22 minutes for the previous version. In addition, the case now provides 48 hours of backup power, up from 32 hours.

These improvements bring the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 closer to competing smart glasses, such as the Oakley HSTN, which have been recognised for their longer-lasting battery performance.

Advanced camera and video features

Meta has also enhanced the built-in camera, which now supports recording at 3K resolution at 30 frames per second, as well as 1440p at 30fps and 1200p at 60fps. Each recording can last up to three minutes.

Later in the year, Meta plans to roll out additional video functions, including hyperlapse and slow-motion recording. These updates will not be exclusive to the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 but will extend to all of Meta’s AI-enabled smart glasses.

New audio functions and style options

The company has announced further features that will arrive in future software updates. A tool called “conversation focus” will use the glasses’ speakers to enhance the voice of the person a wearer is speaking with, making conversations clearer in noisy environments. Meta is also expanding its live translation function to include support for German and Portuguese.

The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses are available in several familiar styles, including Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner. While the new version starts at US$379, the first-generation model will continue to be sold at a lower starting price of US$299.

Meta showcased the Gen 2 glasses at its Connect event, where initial impressions suggested the design remains close to the original. The main changes are found in the improved technical features rather than the appearance.

With a focus on longer battery life, improved video quality, and future-ready audio tools, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 aims to build on the foundation of its predecessor while appealing to both new customers and existing users.
