Apple may launch a curved, all-glass iPhone in 2027

Apple may launch a curved glass iPhone and new smart products in 2027, including foldable smart glasses and an AI-powered home robot.

Apple may be preparing for a major product shift in 2027, just in time to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, you can expect a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” with no visible display cutouts. This would make for a smooth, edge-to-edge design that could change your thoughts about the iPhone.

This idea builds on previous reports, including one from The Information, which suggested that at least one iPhone model in 2027 will hide the front-facing camera under the screen. That design move would allow the entire front of the phone to be one continuous display. Similarly, a 2023 article by The Elec explained that Apple works with screen suppliers to eliminate bezels. However, unlike some Samsung and Vivo phones, Apple is not interested in making the screen curve down the sides.

A closer look at the glass design

So, what does a “mostly glass, curved iPhone” mean? If you look at your current iPhone, like the iPhone 15 Pro, you’ll notice that it already features mostly glass on the front and back. The only major metal parts are around the camera lenses and the titanium frame. But Gurman’s note hints at something far more futuristic, possibly inspired by a 2019 Apple patent that describes a device made of continuous glass wrapping entirely around the body.

This patent mentioned a structure that “forms a continuous loop,” meaning glass curves more completely around the sides, top, and bottom—perhaps even reaching towards the back. Though it’s unlikely the phone would be shaped like a banana, it could have a seamless, curved look unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Big product year ahead

The futuristic iPhone isn’t the only thing you might see from Apple in 2027. Gurman also says that Apple could finally release its first foldable iPhone in the same year. This matches earlier reports and would allow Apple to join competitors like Samsung in the foldable phone space.

In addition, Apple’s first smart glasses—direct competitors to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses—could arrive in 2027. If that’s not enough, Gurman also expects new AirPods and Apple Watches with built-in cameras, making them even smarter and more useful for daily tasks.

Perhaps most intriguing is Apple’s reported development of a home robot. Gurman describes it as a tabletop robot with “an AI assistant and its personality.” That sounds like the experimental robotic lamp Apple researchers have been quietly testing. If true, this could be Apple’s most playful and personal product yet.

Smarter Siri and powerful AI chips

Lastly, there’s hope that Siri can finally get an upgrade. By 2027, Gurman believes Apple could launch a version of Siri powered by its own large language model (LLM), which would bring it closer to other advanced AI assistants on the market.

Behind the scenes, Apple may also be building new chips to handle this AI work more efficiently. These chips would run on Apple’s servers and are said to be developed by the same Israel-based team that helped create Apple’s powerful M-series silicon chips. That same innovation allowed Apple to move away from Intel processors in its Macs starting in 2020.

With all these expected launches, 2027 could become one of Apple’s biggest years ever.
