Belkin recalls iPhone tracking stand and power banks over fire safety concerns

Belkin recalls iPhone stands and power banks after overheating defects raise fire and burn safety concerns.

Belkin has announced a major product recall affecting its Auto-Tracking Stand Pro for the iPhone and two versions of its 20,000mAh BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank. The company confirmed that a manufacturing defect could cause the lithium-ion cell components in these devices to overheat, creating a risk of fire and burn injuries. The recall was formally detailed by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which outlined the extent of the issue and the reported incidents linked to the products.

Safety concerns and reported incidents

According to the CPSC, the defect has led to one reported fire in the United States and 15 additional incidents in other countries. These international cases include two minor burn injuries and an estimated US$37,765 in property damage. Although the overall number of incidents is limited, the potential severity of the problem has prompted Belkin to take precautionary action.

The recall applies to approximately 83,500 units sold in the United States between August 2020 and August 2025. These products were available through Belkin’s online store as well as major retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Amazon. A further 2,385 units were sold in Canada during the same period.

Affected devices can be identified by the model numbers printed on the bottom or sides of the device. The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro is determined by the model number MMA008, while the two power bank versions are labelled BPB002 or PB0003.

Customer guidance and next steps

Belkin is urging all customers who own any of the affected products to discontinue use immediately. The company is offering either a full refund or a Belkin.com store credit equal to the purchase price plus an additional 20%. To access this, customers must complete a recall claim form, which is available on Belkin’s website.

The form requires a valid purchase receipt and the device’s serial number to help “expedite” the claim process. Once a claim has been submitted, customers are advised to dispose of the affected products at a facility capable of handling defective lithium-ion batteries. Belkin stresses that the recalled items should not be placed in household rubbish, recycling bins, or the battery collection boxes often found in retail stores, as these disposal methods are unsafe for damaged lithium-ion products.

Company response and consumer protection

Belkin has stated that the recall is a proactive step to ensure customer safety and prevent further incidents. The company has not disclosed details about the underlying manufacturing defect but has emphasised that it is working with safety regulators to manage the issue responsibly.

Authorities continue to remind consumers about the risks associated with damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat, ignite or explode if not handled correctly. By issuing a wide-reaching recall and offering compensation, Belkin aims to minimise potential harm and maintain trust among its customers.
