Commvault named a leader in IDC MarketScape cyber-recovery report

Commvault has been named a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Cyber-Recovery 2025 report for its innovation and comprehensive cyber resilience solutions.

Commvault has been named a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Cyber-Recovery 2025 Vendor Assessment, underscoring its position as one of the top providers of cyber resilience and data protection solutions for hybrid cloud environments.

The report, released in September 2025, highlighted Commvault’s strengths in several key areas, including its cyber recovery architecture, breadth of workload and platform support, integration with security ecosystems, and dedicated cyber-resilience training. These capabilities, according to IDC, make Commvault a strong choice for organisations seeking to strengthen their data recovery strategies against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

IDC noted that Commvault Cloud features purpose-built cyber-recovery tools such as immutable and air-gapped storage, curated and orchestrated recovery workflows, and deep integration with a broad ecosystem of security vendors. The report also highlighted Commvault’s early adoption of decoy technology to simulate high-value targets like Active Directory, helping detect infiltration attempts and enabling both granular object and forest-level recovery if Active Directory is compromised.

Enabling resilience in an AI-driven world

Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Chief Products Officer at Commvault, said the recognition comes at a time when organisations face greater risks in an AI-driven environment where data is both highly valuable and increasingly vulnerable.

“In today’s AI-driven world, where data is more valuable—and more vulnerable—than ever, managing risk has never been more important,” said Kottomtharayil. “Our platform gives customers the power to stay resilient: to recover quickly and cleanly, to use AI to manage the risks that come with its widespread adoption, and to keep business moving forward. We believe being named a Leader by the IDC MarketScape reinforces our commitment to helping organisations thrive with confidence in the face of evolving cyber threats.”

IDC echoed this sentiment, emphasising Commvault’s innovative approach to cyber recovery and its ability to deliver a unified platform that supports both legacy and modern workloads. Johnny Yu, Research Manager for Infrastructure Software Platforms at IDC, said Commvault Cloud’s breadth and depth make it particularly suited for large enterprises seeking to consolidate technologies and align their data resilience strategies with evolving security and compliance requirements.

“Commvault’s strength lies in its innovative approach to cyber recovery, delivering a single, unified platform with a wide range of coverage for both legacy and modern workloads,” said Yu. “With features like immutable and air-gapped storage, curated and orchestrated recovery workflows, and deep integration with an extensive ecosystem of security vendors, Commvault Cloud is well-suited for large enterprises seeking to reduce technology sprawl and align data resilience strategies with evolving security and compliance mandates.”

Strengthening leadership in data protection

This latest recognition from IDC builds on Commvault’s strong standing across several major analyst reports. The company was also recognised in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Backup and Data Protection Platforms and The Forrester Wave: Data Resilience Solutions, Q4 2024, highlighting its continued leadership in the data protection and cyber resilience space.

As cyber threats grow more complex and pervasive, Commvault’s continued investment in cyber-recovery innovation aims to help organisations safeguard their most critical assets, minimise downtime, and ensure business continuity. Its unified approach and comprehensive feature set place it among the top choices for enterprises seeking advanced, future-ready cyber resilience solutions.
