Google adds parking lots to Maps and live reporting for Waze

Google Maps adds a parking feature, and Waze introduces live reporting and locks screen navigation for a smoother driving experience.

Have you ever struggled to find parking when driving to a new place? Google Maps has introduced a new feature to help you locate parking near your destination, making it more accessible, especially if this is your first time there.

But that’s not the only update. Google has announced five significant updates for both Maps and Waze. Here’s what you can expect:

Destination guidance and more straightforward reporting

Google Maps will soon feature destination guidance globally on Android, iOS, and cars with Google Built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. This new feature will highlight your destination and its entrance as you approach it and show nearby parking lots. This will make your drive smoother and parking hassle-free.

If you encounter an accident or any other incident, such as construction, lane closures, road obstructions, or police presence, reporting it on Maps has become more accessible. The new update includes larger, easier-to-tap reporting icons, allowing you to share and confirm incidents with other drivers quickly. This improved incident reporting is rolling out globally now on Android, iOS, and cars with Google Built-in, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

Speed camera alerts and event notifications on Waze

In countries like Singapore, where speed cameras monitor expressways for speeding, Waze adds an Alert button. This lets you add camera data to Waze, helping other drivers know their locations. Drivers will receive alerts for cameras monitoring speeding, red-light violations, wrong-lane usage, seatbelt violations, or phone use while driving. These traffic camera alerts are rolling out globally on Android and iOS.

For events causing road closures, slow traffic, and general congestion, Waze will notify you if you have driven through an impacted area or have saved places near it. For instance, during National Day Parade rehearsals, you will receive updates about road closures and real-time traffic conditions. You can share these details with friends and family heading to the area. This new traffic events feature in Waze is now rolling out globally on Android and iOS.

Navigation guidance on the lock screen

While their phones are locked, Waze users can now receive navigation guidance, such as turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, or hazard alerts. This new lock screen navigation feature launches globally on Waze on Android this month and will come to iOS this autumn.

These updates are designed to make your driving experience smoother and safer, whether finding parking, reporting incidents, avoiding traffic cameras, or navigating events.
