Google Nest camera and doorbell leak reveals 2K video and new colours

Google’s next Nest Cam and Doorbell may launch with 2K video, new colours, AI features, and updated subscription plans.

A new leak suggests that Google is preparing to upgrade its Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell ranges with higher-resolution video, fresh colours, and enhanced smart features. The information, first reported by Android Headlines, includes images of the upcoming devices and hints at several software and subscription changes.

Higher resolution and colour options

According to Android Headlines, Google’s next-generation battery-powered Nest Cam may be offered in white and grey, while a wired indoor version could debut in a striking berry red finish. The report also claims the next Nest Doorbell will feature 2K video recording, a significant improvement over the current 1080p resolution.

Both the new camera and doorbell are expected to introduce AI-powered “Daily Summaries,” which provide daily recaps of recorded activity. The Nest Doorbell may also be available in white, beige, and grey, giving customers more options to match their home decor.

These updates mark Google’s latest push to refresh its home security range, with the focus on clearer video quality and smarter notifications for users.

Smart speaker and subscription changes

The leak also sheds light on a new Google Home Speaker, which briefly appeared during the Pixel 10 launch event. Android Headlines reports that the device will include 360-degree audio and integrate with a Google TV Streamer. The speaker is expected to feature “Sound Sensing” technology, allowing it to detect specific sounds, such as glass breaking or a smoke alarm, and send alerts to users.

In addition to new hardware, Google is reportedly planning changes to its subscription services. The Nest Aware plan, which offers video history and additional features for Nest devices, may be rebranded as “Google Home Premium.” The company is also rumoured to be working on a new tier called “Google Home Premium Advanced,” although no details have been shared about what it will include.

App updates for existing devices

While users await official announcements, current Nest device owners can benefit from recent updates to the Google Home app. The refreshed interface now offers improved camera management features, including preview snapshots on camera tiles, static thumbnails in event notifications, and smoother live video playback. Users can also skip forward or backwards by 10 seconds in recorded footage by double-tapping the edges of the video player.

Google has yet to confirm any release dates or pricing for its next-generation devices, but these leaks suggest a significant upgrade is forthcoming for its smart home product line.
