Kyndryl reports progress in sustainability and AI governance for 2025

Kyndryl reports 2025 sustainability gains, with emissions cuts, AI governance progress and global recognition for citizenship efforts.

Kyndryl has published its Fiscal Year 2025 Corporate Citizenship Report, outlining major achievements in sustainability, workforce development and responsible technology. The enterprise services provider highlighted double-digit reductions in emissions, progress in AI governance and global recognition for its environmental and social impact efforts.

Advancing sustainability goals

The company reported an 18% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions compared to its fiscal 2023 baseline, moving closer to its long-term aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. Energy consumption was reduced by 15% year-on-year, with 58% of purchased electricity sourced from renewables. These milestones were described as critical to supporting both near-term science-based targets and wider decarbonisation goals.

Kyndryl also strengthened its sustainability services, offering customers AI-driven tools to improve environmental strategies and ensure compliance with regional regulations. These services are designed to help businesses cut carbon output while pursuing digital transformation.

Empowering people and communities

The report highlighted significant investment in employee learning and development. Customer-facing staff doubled their average learning hours over the past year, with particular focus on advanced technology skills. Alongside training, Kyndryl launched Kinship @ Kyndryl, a new initiative aimed at scaling inclusion, belonging and well-being programmes across the organisation.

The Kyndryl Foundation continued to support global non-profits, awarding second-year grants to 12 organisations in 11 countries. These initiatives focused on improving AI and cybersecurity skills, helping to train more than 49,000 people worldwide.

Strengthening trust and governance

A key theme of the report was responsible innovation. Kyndryl advanced its AI strategy by introducing a governance framework to oversee the ethical use of AI across internal operations and customer solutions. The framework ensures that the company’s AI technologies are deployed responsibly, with clear principles guiding their use.

Faith Taylor, Senior Vice President, Global Citizenship and Sustainability at Kyndryl, said: “Corporate citizenship is a driving force for innovation, growth and global impact at Kyndryl. We are committed to advancing sustainability, empowering our workforce and communities, ensuring high standards of corporate governance and supporting our customers in achieving their objectives. We’re proud to be shaping a future where sustainability and social impact, powered by transformative technologies like AI, are integral to business success.”

Recognition and awards

Kyndryl’s progress has been recognised with several industry awards. The company received an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top five percent of participating organisations. It was also listed in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies, Forbes’ Net Zero Leaders, and was ranked a leader in the ISG Provider Lens Sustainability and ESG – IT Solutions and Services Report. In addition, the company has received more than 60 workplace awards in the first three years since becoming an independent entity.

Through its FY2025 Corporate Citizenship Report, Kyndryl positioned itself as a company integrating sustainability, innovation and inclusivity into its business strategy while maintaining a strong focus on customer success.
