Nintendo invites players to join the secretive Switch Online playtest

Apply now to join Nintendo’s secret Switch Online playtest, offering an exclusive feature preview from October 23 to November 5.

Nintendo is offering an exciting opportunity to participate in a new playtest for Nintendo Switch Online, but the company is keeping the details under wraps. While they haven’t revealed exactly what this new feature might be, speculation is running wild, with some thinking it could involve anything from classic GameCube games coming to the platform to a preview of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2.

The announcement comes shortly after Nintendo released its unique gesture-controlled alarm clock, showing that the company continues to innovate and surprise its users. Whether you’re hoping for a retro Wii mini console or a classic Star Fox game revival, the mystery surrounding this playtest has fans eagerly sharing their best guesses. You’re welcome to add your predictions in the comments.

How to apply for the playtest

If you’re interested in joining, applications are open from Thursday, October 10, at 11:00 AM ET until Tuesday, October 15, at 10:59 AM ET. To sign up, visit the application page on Nintendo’s official site. Nintendo has set slightly different rules depending on your location, so understand how it works. If you live outside Japan, you’ll be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if you’re in Japan, you may be chosen by raffle if many apply.

You’ll need to check off a few things before you can apply. First, you must have a Nintendo Account, be an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member, and be at least 18 years old. You must also be registered in one of the following countries: Japan, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain. Make sure you meet these requirements before applying.

Nintendo plans to accept as many as 10,000 participants, so there’s a good chance you’ll get in if you apply early. However, they’ve said they may close applications sooner if they hit the participant limit, so don’t wait too long. Once accepted, you’ll need to download exclusive Switch software to participate in the test.

Playtest dates and what to expect

The playtest will run from October 23 at 9:00 PM ET to November 5 at 7:59 PM ET. During this time, you can explore whatever feature Nintendo has in store. Though they haven’t revealed exactly what it will involve, the mystery is part of the fun, and fans are already excited. Whether this playtest gives you a sneak peek at future games, features, or even hardware updates, it’s sure to attract Nintendo enthusiasts worldwide.

In typical Nintendo fashion, the company builds anticipation without giving too much away, adding to the thrill of being part of such an exclusive event. This could be a great chance to get hands-on with something brand-new before anyone else.

Be sure to apply soon to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. With thousands of people expected to participate, you’ll join many fans eager to test out Nintendo’s latest creation.
