Oracle Cloud launches new Compute E6 shapes powered by AMD’s 5th Gen EPYC processors

Oracle Cloud boosts performance with new Compute E6 shapes powered by 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors, now available in key global regions.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has introduced a new line of Compute E6 Standard shapes, powered by 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors, aimed at significantly boosting performance and cost efficiency. The new instances are designed to serve both general-purpose and compute-intensive workloads, delivering up to twice the performance per dollar compared to the previous E5 generation, according to internal testing by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

The upgrade highlights continued collaboration between AMD and Oracle to offer more powerful and cost-effective solutions to businesses worldwide. OCI Compute E6 shapes add to the growing number of cloud offerings powered by AMD EPYC processors, which are already in use across major cloud providers globally.

High performance meets flexibility

The new 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors are described by AMD as the most advanced server CPUs currently available for enterprise, artificial intelligence, and cloud workloads. These processors bring a range of enhancements, including higher thread density, improved memory bandwidth, and more PCIe Gen5 lanes for input/output performance. They also come with security features like Secure Memory Encryption and Secure Encrypted Virtualisation.

Dan McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Server Business, said, “The rapid adoption of AMD EPYC processors in the cloud underscores our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that enable our partners to create highly competitive cloud offerings. The combination of OCI’s flexible infrastructure and the performance of 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors helps customers accelerate their most demanding workloads while optimising their cloud infrastructure.”

Donald Lu, Senior Vice President of Software Development at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, echoed the sentiment. “Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to providing our customers with the best-performing, most cost-effective cloud offerings. With the new OCI Compute E6 Standard shapes powered by AMD EPYC processors, we are delivering an unparalleled combination of compute power, scalability, and efficiency that meets the demands of today’s most complex workloads.”

Global rollout and availability

The new OCI Compute E6 shapes are currently available in several key regions, including US East (Ashburn), US West (Phoenix), US Midwest (Chicago), Germany Central (Frankfurt), and UK South (London). Oracle plans to expand availability to more regions in the coming months, ensuring broader access to the upgraded infrastructure.

This announcement marks another step forward for AMD’s growing influence in the public cloud sector. With more than a thousand AMD EPYC-powered compute instances available across cloud platforms, both AMD and Oracle are reinforcing their commitment to providing high-performance, secure, and energy-efficient computing environments for enterprises.
