Resolution Games unveils Battlemarked, a new VR Dungeons & Dragons game

Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast unveil Battlemarked, a new VR D&D game. Featuring turn-based combat and story-driven campaigns, it launches soon.

You’re in for a treat if you love Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast have officially revealed their upcoming VR game, Battlemarked. After keeping details under wraps for months, the companies unveiled the title on Wednesday, bringing you closer to experiencing D&D in virtual reality.

Battlemarked is built on Resolution Games’ Demeo system, which creates a virtual tabletop environment with turn-based combat. Like Demeo, the game uses an action point system with playing cards, but it aims to offer a more authentic D&D experience. This is the first official partnership between Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast, making it the closest you’ll get to playing D&D in VR without needing a Dungeon Master (DM). Instead, the game focuses on strategy and decision-making rather than deep roleplaying.

Campaigns, platforms, and trailer details

Battlemarked will feature two story-driven campaigns designed for up to four players at launch. While the exact details of these campaigns remain unknown, Resolution Games has confirmed plans to release additional campaigns set in different D&D worlds.

The game will be available on multiple platforms, including VR, PC, and consoles. While a specific list of supported devices hasn’t been announced, Demeo is currently playable on Meta Quest, Pico, SteamVR, PlayStation VR2, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, and iPad, making it likely that Battlemarked will launch on these platforms as well.

Alongside the announcement, Resolution Games released a trailer showcasing the game’s art style and some playable classes and races, including a fighter Dragonborn and a rogue Tiefling. However, details on the game’s launch date and pricing are still unknown, as the company declined to comment further.

D&D’s growing mainstream presence

This announcement comes as D&D continues to gain widespread popularity. What started as a niche tabletop RPG has evolved into a multimedia phenomenon, with hit web series like Critical Role and Dimension 20, video games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, and even a Hollywood film, Honor Among Thieves.

Resolution Games, a Stockholm-based gaming studio, has an extensive portfolio of titles, including Angry Birds: Isle of Pigs, Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale, and Spatial Ops. According to PitchBook, the company has recently raised approximately US$38.6 million.

With Battlemarked, D&D fans now have another exciting way to immerse themselves in the world of fantasy roleplaying—this time, in virtual reality.
