ROG XBOX Ally X20 bundle adds OLED display and AR glasses for anniversary release
ASUS ROG introduces the ROG XBOX Ally X20 bundle with OLED display, Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, and AR glasses.
ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced the ROG XBOX Ally X20 bundle as a 20th anniversary edition of its gaming handheld line, pairing a redesigned device with ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses.
Table Of Content
The handheld introduces a 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR Display with an OLED panel, marking the first time the Ally line has been offered with OLED. It also uses an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, and XBOX mode for navigation and gaming.
A 20th anniversary design with updated hardware
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 uses a translucent black chassis with a gold internal structure, created for the 20th anniversary of ROG. The design gives the handheld a collector-focused angle while showing parts of its internal cooling system and AMD-based hardware through the casing.
The OLED display is larger than previous Ally screens at 7.4 inches and supports a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000. The panel is rated at 600 nits, with peak brightness of 1,400 nits, and has a 0.2ms response time.
ASUS has also included Corning Gorilla Victus and Corning DXC Anti-Reflection glass. The anti-reflective coating is stated to reduce glare by 65%, which should help the handheld remain easier to view in brighter environments.
The move to OLED has also required a thermal redesign. ASUS said the thermal system has been adjusted to direct more airflow to the APU and help keep surface temperatures on the display as low as possible, as OLED panels are more sensitive to heat than traditional LCD displays.
Controls and performance target portable play
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 keeps the handheld format but adds several controller changes. Its Transforming D-Pad can be used in a standard four-way layout or converted to eight-way control for fighting games. The face buttons now sit flush against the chassis, while the rear handgrips use a rubberised coating for longer play sessions.
ASUS has also added TMR joystick technology, which it says improves precision, tracking, responsiveness, and durability. The joysticks are designed to reduce drift and are described as offering more precision than Hall effect sensors.
The handheld runs on Windows 11 Home and is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor. It includes 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory and a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. Connectivity includes WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, one USB4 Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a microSD Express card reader, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 also supports Auto SR preview, which upscales frames rendered at lower resolutions. ASUS said the feature is designed to make games look sharper and run more smoothly, including when gameplay is docked to a larger screen.
AR glasses complete the bundle
The bundle includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, which are designed to extend the handheld gaming setup beyond the built-in display. The glasses offer a 171-inch virtual screen at four metres, a 240Hz display, and 95% focused field-of-view coverage.
The ROG R1 builds the bundle around a larger virtual display rather than another handheld accessory. Its micro-OLED panels deliver a 240Hz display and 0.01ms response time, while native 3DoF tracking allows the virtual screen to follow head movements. Anchor Mode can also keep the screen fixed in place during play. The glasses connect to the ROG XBOX Ally X20 through a single USB Type-C cable, integrate with Command Center, and carry the same black and gold colour treatment as the handheld’s anniversary design.
ASUS has not stated pricing or market availability in the announcement. Specifications, content, and product availability are subject to change and may differ by country.
