Samsung’s latest vacuum alerts you to calls and texts while you clean

Samsung’s new Bespoke AI Jet Ultra vacuum can alert you to calls and texts while cleaning as the brand expands smart home screens across appliances.

In a world filled with notifications, there’s one time when you might miss an important call or message—while vacuuming. With its latest cordless stick vacuum, the Bespoke AI Jet Ultra, Samsung has found a solution. Priced at US$1,099, this advanced vacuum now features an LCD control panel that displays power levels and battery life and alerts you to incoming calls and text messages.

The Bespoke AI Jet Ultra also has a powerful 400AW suction and an impressive 100-minute battery life. It includes an auto-empty charging station, making it a convenient and powerful choice for home cleaning.

Smart home integration expands beyond vacuuming

If you’ve ever left your phone in another room while doing laundry, Samsung has another upgrade to keep you connected. The Bespoke AI Laundry Vented Combo washer/dryer, priced at US$3,099, features a built-in 7-inch LCD touchscreen. This allows you to answer calls directly from the machine.

Beyond phone calls, this smart washer/dryer offers practical features like automatic detergent dispensing and a self-opening door when the cycle finishes. Samsung’s vision is to bring this level of connectivity to all its Bespoke AI appliances, helping you stay connected no matter where you are in the house.

Samsung’s AI Home: Screens everywhere

At CES this year, Samsung showcased its AI Home control panels, which are now integrated into more household appliances. These 7- and 9-inch LCD screens appear on smart fridges, wall ovens, and more. The AI Home displays work with both Android and iOS, requiring a Samsung account and the SmartThings app.

Samsung’s flagship Family Hub smart fridge has also been upgraded with AI Home features. Users can now choose between a streamlined display with essential apps like music, weather, and smart home controls or a larger 21.5-inch or 32-inch screen with additional entertainment options such as Samsung TV and TikTok.

AI-powered features are also enhancing everyday tasks. The Samsung Food app, for instance, can scan your fridge’s contents using its built-in AI cameras. It then suggests recipes and sends instructions directly to your Bespoke AI oven. These screens also integrate with Samsung’s SmartThings smart home platform, allowing you to check video doorbell alerts while unloading the washer.

The future of home tech: convenience or overkill?

Samsung’s “screens everywhere” approach aims to make smart home technology seamless. However, some may question whether this level of integration is necessary. A smart display could serve many of the same functions, likely at a lower cost. Built-in screens also raise concerns about tech obsolescence and potential malfunctions, especially compared to traditional appliance controls.

Another worry is whether Samsung might introduce ads to these screens in the future, as seen with Amazon’s Echo Show smart displays. While Samsung has not done this yet, it remains a possibility. The Verge has contacted the company for comment and will provide updates as they become available.
