Vaio returns to Singapore: Is it still as good as before?

[output_post_excerpt]

If you remember when Sony’s Vaio laptops were among the most stylish and premium devices on the market, you might be excited to hear that the brand has returned to Singapore. Once a standout in the PC world, Vaio was sold off by Sony in 2014 and later acquired by Japanese electronics retailer Nojima in 2023. Now, Vaio is making a fresh start with two new models aimed at both consumers and business users.

The latest Vaio offerings are the Vaio SX14-R for consumers and the Vaio Pro PK-R for business users. Both models come with a lightweight 1.08kg carbon fiber chassis and are powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H Processor, up to 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. They feature a 14-inch WUXGA display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and Intel Arc Graphics.

These laptops, launched in December 2023, use Intel’s Meteor Lake architecture. However, they do not support Copilot+ and lack AI-driven features besides noise-canceling technology for virtual meetings. Despite this, the H-series processor makes them well-suited for high-performance tasks like gaming and content creation.

Connectivity is also a strong point, with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A (USB 3.0) ports, and an HDMI 2.1 port. Battery life is respectable, offering up to 14 hours of video playback on the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H variant.

Pricing and availability

The Vaio SX14-R is now available at Best Denki stores in VivoCity and Ngee Ann City, and the Funan outlet is planned for a March release. A model with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage starts at S$2,949.

The Vaio Pro PK-R, aimed at business users, will be sold through authorised resellers.
