Apple is working on a new Vision Pro that connects to your Mac

Apple is developing two new Vision Pro models: a Mac-connected version and a cheaper, lighter headset.

Apple has not given up on its Vision Pro headset yet. Despite slow sales and early user concerns, the company plans a new path forward. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is developing two updated versions of the mixed reality device — including one that will plug directly into your Mac.

A lighter and cheaper model could be on the way

You may have heard some of the common complaints about the Vision Pro. Many people have said it feels too heavy on the head, and others have said the US$3,500 price tag is too high. Apple is listening.

One of the new versions in development is expected to be lighter and more affordable. That’s a big step, especially considering the current parts’ cost. Lowering the price without sacrificing quality is difficult, especially as Apple also has to deal with changing tariff policies under the Trump administration, making importing certain parts more costly.

Even so, Apple appears determined to make the Vision Pro more accessible. A cheaper model would likely appeal to more everyday users rather than just tech fans and developers.

Another model will connect with your Mac

The second version Apple is working on is even more interesting. This one is designed to connect to your Mac, letting you stream your computer’s display directly into the headset. If you’ve ever wanted to sit in a virtual workspace where your entire desktop floats in front of your eyes, this could be your chance.

This new model is expected to focus on enterprise use. That means it may be ideal for work tasks, such as video calls, designing 3D models, or writing reports — within a virtual setting. For businesses, it could mean fewer physical monitors and more flexible workspaces.

Pairing the Vision Pro with a Mac could also become a more powerful tool. Your Mac would handle the heavy processing, while the headset would act more like a display. This could help keep the weight down since fewer parts would be needed inside the headset.

Apple still hopes to build AR glasses you can wear all-day

While these new Vision Pro versions are exciting, Apple’s long-term goal goes even further. CEO Tim Cook has a clear vision: eventually creating lightweight augmented reality (AR) glasses you could wear all day, just like a normal pair of spectacles.

That kind of product would be a major breakthrough. Unlike a bulky headset, AR glasses could show you useful information in your field of vision, help you with directions, or give you updates without looking down at your phone. But the technology to do that in a small, stylish frame is still years away.

For now, Apple is taking smaller steps. The following Vision Pro models are expected to be a bridge that will make the tech more useful and comfortable while moving closer to that future dream.

There’s no word yet on when either version will be released. However, one thing is clear: Apple isn’t walking away from Vision Pro. It’s just getting started.
