April 2025 update now available for Google Pixel phones – here’s what you need to know

Google's April 2025 Pixel update improves fingerprint response, fixes bugs, and adds security patches for a smoother, safer experience.

Google has rolled out its April 2025 software update for Pixel phones, and if you own one of the supported models, you can expect to receive the update very soon. This latest release brings improvements and bug fixes designed to make your experience more stable, secure, and enjoyable.

What improvements can you expect?

One of the key changes in this update is an improvement in fingerprint recognition. If you’ve found it slow or unreliable, especially in a hurry, you should notice faster and more accurate responses after updating your device. Google has also improved camera zoom stability, making it easier to capture sharper close-up shots without the camera struggling to focus or jitter.

Another issue addressed is screen flickering, which some users experience while watching videos on certain streaming apps. That problem should now be fixed so you can enjoy your shows without distractions. The update also resolves a minor but frustrating glitch involving the lock screen, where the weather and clock elements occasionally overlap. The information should be displayed correctly, making your lock screen easier to read.

In addition, Google has improved the Pixel Launcher. Users had reported problems when creating and managing their home screens, which should now be resolved. Whether you like personalising your phone with widgets or organising your apps, the overall experience should now feel smoother and more reliable.

Security updates matter too

While the more visible fixes might grab your attention, the update also includes important security patches that work behind the scenes. These updates cover Google Assistant, the WLAN (Wi-Fi) driver, and the phone’s modem. Even if you don’t notice any immediate changes, these security improvements help protect your data and ensure your phone remains safe from threats.

Installing these updates is one of the easiest ways to keep your phone protected and functioning at its best. They might not come with new features, but they are crucial in keeping your device secure and running efficiently.

Who is getting the update?

If you’re using an unlocked global version of a Pixel phone—including those sold in Singapore—the update is now being delivered over the air and will reach your device in the coming days. The update covers the Pixel 6 series, including the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a. It also includes the Pixel 7 series, which features the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a.

Other supported devices include the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, although these models are not officially launched in Singapore. The Pixel 8 series is also included, covering the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a. Finally, the Pixel 9 series will receive the update as well, which includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and the upcoming Pixel 9a, which is set to be released in Singapore on April 16.

If your device is region-locked—such as those purchased through Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, or for Taiwan and EMEA markets—you will only receive the update if you’re using one of the earlier flagship versions from the Pixel 9 series. These include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
